Not much time to try and get your attempt in to beat the "record" of 130mph...

I'd like to see how many casualties were caused by bikers (excluding the rider).

If people want to go and damage/kill themselves then that's fine by me... Its a bit unfair when it drags other people into it though.

Its not like us bikers don't know the risks when we ride fast..... People seem to think we are idiots oblivious to the risk.

thats crap and people will still fall off/crash at or below 50, probably because there spending too much time looking at the speedo and not enough lookin at the bends!

If you didn't pin it on the straights and just concentrated on the corners, i think then you'd be doing quite well to average 50mph round there Thinking

Have a gander at this https://www.macclesfield-express.co.uk/news/s/405/405565_death_road_label_is_out_of_date_say_police.html A 2004 article.
Statistics eh? Can be interpreted and used in many ways.

A537 has kudos of old.
People will still continue crashing on relatively slow corners. Like Ant and bEN_ mentioned a 50mph average will still be a spirited ride thats if you can keep clear of the lorries, buses and long lengths of rutted tarmac.
In short its a money saving excercise not a casualty one. IMO

I had a little Google and found a cycling forum praising the cameras. Made me laugh.

Lulz at the last quote "They have been designed to minimize the impact on the landscape".

See what they did there?

I'm one of those prats who nearly killed themselves doing the Cat & Fiddle. Yes speed was involved, but the reason for the accident was my mood at the time, just had an argument with the bitch and target fixation. All that the speed reduction would have done would be to have reduced the broken bones quota, the accident was going to happen sometime that day, just when and where was the issue.

Ha! I knew it would be on the cards...you just wait, it'll soon be rolled out on all major routes across the UK. It's been proven to work. It's a dead cert it'll be implemented. Rolling Eyes

I know you say they'll be rear facing, but if you go through the 1st one at macclesfield and it gets your plate, then go through another at the fiddle and it gets your plate, what happens if you ride the route backwards? Laughing or will they have them facing both ways?

I'm guessing they've covered all basis so will have them facing both ways. Who knows though? Has anyone been up there to see if any work has been carried out to put them in?

I'm not quite sure how you can have SPECS cameras that don't impact on the landscape, giant yellow poles by the roadside, unless they paint the bottom green and top blue (or grey as is usual) to blend in with the skyline.

They will be front and rear facing like most of the motorway SPECS cameras are now, as bikers are the main problem I doubt they'd be that stupid to make them front facing only. I've never actually been along the road as far as I know, not on the bike anyway, too much fuss about it all.
