The answer is a definitive yes!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT-cVvGDSlk at about 30s if you can't be bothered to watch one minute of video.
Just a low speed emergency stop, but the closest one I’ve had in quite a while. I’ve had similar panic braking result in a front wheel slide before, especially in the wet.
Naughty Merc driver for trusting the nice person who let him out. The bloke was very apologetic and I thought his wife was going to have a heart attack. Slap on the wrist for me going perhaps a little quick for the conditions. I was quite within my rights to pass the traffic as the road operates with two lanes at that time of day...
...anyway, just waffling now.
Top marks go to Michelin Pilot Road II tyres. Not one single slide or squirm from the rear this winter and now a controlled stop in the wet. Good stuff! ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Looking at the raw video I'd been riding for about four minutes by that time with limited stopping and starting. Ambient temperature was about 2 degrees and there'd been an overnight frost before the rain started. My average speed was 30-40mph...
...so yeah I'd say the tyres were close to stone cold.
I'm happy anyway. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

I had a bit of a moment on the ride home as well, someone stepped out infront of a supra that was trundling along ahead of me, needless to say the supra's brakes were a lot better than the rusty tokico on my GS
Went for my brakes, realised I had zero chance of stopping in time and barely managed to swerve around. I could swear I felt my boot take a knock against the car but they are unmarked, no scrapes or dents on the exhaust either so it's all good for another day... It was a good reminder that the front brakes need a proper good overhaul though ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

I decided to fit PR2 tyres to cope with this exact scenario. I didn’t pander to usual sports biker vanity and fit sticky rubber because I ride every day in all conditions and my largely urban journey wouldn’t get much heat into sporty tyres. I hoped that the PR2s would grip well, but I didn’t go out and test them until they skidded, so the fact that they performed well under these circumstances impressed me.
Yes you have a point that I was going a bit fast for the conditions, but I guess you already saw that I stated that myself. However was it too fast? Well, no because otherwise I would have hit the Merc (or been past before it emerged ) It’s difficult to judge my rate of deceleration because the bus is accelerating in the opposite direction, but you can hear from the engine note that I was already slowing the second the first brake lights flash. I could have stopped right then, but there was no need to, I was anticipating danger and still had plenty of space to stop. Even once I saw the Merc I didn’t slam on the brakes. I was fully expecting him to stop when he saw me and even though he’d been flashed out I was prepared to force him to stop. Does this make me arrogant and a bit of a bully? Not really. Show weakness in your urban riding and you become a victim. Mildly offensive riding has kept me shiny side up for many years of commuting. Trouble is, matey in the car didn’t see me and I had to switch quickly to defensive mode and stop before I got splattered.
Do you think that it was kind of obvious that something like this was going to happen because you were watching a video called “emergency stop in the wet”, perhaps?

This is a pretty sad statement. Ignoring the laughable “no offence”(which only seems to be said by deliberately offensive people) I don’t know you from Adam and you’ve been fairly rude without provocation, yet I DO give a fuck about you. Assuming that you actually ride a bike, I hope that when someone pulls out in front of you that it all ends well for you. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Err, yes. I was saying that I settled on tyres that had a reputation for good grip from cold. These days I don't get through tyres fast enough to try all the different types so I had to rely on reviews.
The PR2s got good writeups so I tried those. I fitted them during the last of what you could optimistically call the summer and they were very confidence inspiring in warm dry conditions too.
My previous tyres were 020s and must have gone through four or five sets on the CBR6 and Blade. They did the job, but never felt as secure as the PR2s. I had several nasty slides with them and once the front was worn the handling went really horrible. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |
