I used to be a massive comic fan, but haven't bought any for years. Although I will say, I have met one of the freelance artists from 2000AD, and he lives fairly close and he has invited me over to his (and his wife's) studio. He is going to teach me how to use watercolours more artistically. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I still have a load of my 2000AD's from the 70's in the loft.
Number 1 to 30 I think ?
Used to love the dinosaur hunting for meat story ?? cant for the life of me remember what it was called ? ____________________ There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffa tape.
Gaffa tape is like "the force" - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together. |

I used to be an avid reader and collector of 200AD and all its spin-offs (Crisis, Revolver etc), my Dad 'accidentally' threw out loads of the early ones (up to about prog 500), and i sold the rest on eGay for a pittance a while ago as they just took up too much space - even considering that loads of them were thrown out, there was still several large boxfuls of comics, annuals, specials etc etc.
I've got most of the progs now in .cbr format, and they take up considerably less space.
Personally, the heyday of 2000AD for me was back in the late 80s/early 90s, it slumped a bit for me towards the mid/late 90s, and that was when i stopped buying it.
My fave story was probably Ulysses Sweet - the one where he met up with the vegetable liberation front (who only ate edible rocks) and had to rescue a kidnapped talking potato called King Edward. ____________________ Space Monkey #7

I did similar with a load of early spiderman stuff, was never overly into the Marvel/DC worlds and hence binned them after reading. They included things like "The Amazing Spider Man" #3 to #16. If you want to laugh now then go ahead
Main reason I asked this question is the rediscovery of my graphic novels, I threw away most of my 2000ADs a while back but recently rediscovered my Halo Jones compilation and also a few other bits. Just curious to see how well remembered things like this were. Russel is actually another story entirely, nothing to do with any mainstream comic, more a political satire set in the late eighties/early nineties "alternative" scene. ____________________ I'm immortal. shame on you
Anyone remember big dave and the iraq love gun? The British PM had to send Big Dave to Iraq, as Saddam had made a gun that turned all the soldiers into poofs - coincidentally the gun resembled a giant cock.
2000ad used to get away with a lot of stuff because it was set in the 'future.'

FFC is another old friend.
I used to move around a fair bit, whilst I can justify storing books for a while when between houses it's a bit different crating up old comics. I can appreciate the desire but pragmatism wins.
Speaking of such things, I must get around to picking up the "Preacher" series ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |
