PostPosted: 15:58 - 19 Feb 2010    Post subject: Supposed Insurance Claim ?... Reply with quote

My year long motorcycle insurance policy ended in January, I didn't renew as I hadn't got the lump sum to pay the deposit so I thought I'd look elsewhere and requested my proof of no claims, that came but I had no joy anywhere else with lower prices...

So, I went back with my previous insurers and took out a month to month policy as I could deal with that until I have money coming in to pay straight away on a policy, anyhow...

Two days ago I received and email and two letters of the same content stating that I haven't declared a claim, on which due to the wording in the letters I took to mean on the bike, so I fired off an email back stating that the date of the claim is nearly three years before I bought the bike that I've re insured with them and asking why this supposed claim has only just come to light.

They've got back to me today stating it was a claim on a car insurance policy and are still requesting documentation of said claim, now, I've sent another email stating that I've never taken out insurance on a car policy as I don't drive and have never taken the required test to do so, in the email today it says that the claim came to light with regards to the personal details I provided, I've also stated to them that I've only ever had motorcycle insurance and it's always been with themselves.

They are also stating that if I don't send the required documents within ten days that my insurance will be cancelled by them and I will have to declare it in the future.

So, any hints or advice as to what to do as I'm stumped ?...

Does this mean someone else is using my details ?...

Why hasn't it come to light before if it's matched to the claims database ?...

Or is it an genuine mistake by themselves when cross referencing the details as my policy documents are all present and correct ?...

Any help peeps would be greatly appreciated...

Em, call them and speak to them. Explain you do not and have never driven cars and as such have had no claims on car insurance. Ask them to check further into the details they have on this alledged claim.

Don't do this by email, simple points can be missed that you could pick up in a conversation.

In my first email back to this woman from the claims/ documentation ( or some such ) department I included my phone number as I want to speak to her personally and her number is not given on the paperwork or email ( as usual ), would speaking to customer services get me the desired outcome do you think as I've no idea what they are on about ?...

EDIT...Just checked the website for the phone number and it says...

"Our staff will only be able to assist if you have a technical problem with the website. They will not be able to:

•Offer quotations
•Make changes to your policy
•Resolve or advise on any claims issues
•Resolve payment questions "...

So email is my only form of communication according to that...

Let me get this straight - they say you haven't declared a car insurance claim from three years ago. In reality you have never owned a car nor taken out car insurance as you don't have a license. Correct?

That doesn't come under any of those things that their website says they don't deal with. Sounds like they may have confused you with someone else or a bogus claim has gone through somewhere using your details. Best to speak to someone to clear it up, they can advise you on what has happened there and then without waiting for someone to email you back.

Sounds very odd though Confused

It says they don't deal with claim issues, this is a claim issue but I shall try ringing them as soon as to try and get advice regards this... Thumbs Up

You don't have a claim to resolve though. Can't hurt to call and ask them Smile

If it was a bogus claim though wouldn't said policy documents come to this address as I can't see just my name bringing up this claim as there could be a thousand people with the same name but only one with this address ?...

Did that make sense ?...

So I'm going to go with it's a " Their fuck up "...

It does make sense, I was thinking of those crash for cash scams where people hand over their cars to people, who then brake suddenly infront of someone else and claim for whiplash and bogus injuries. They sometimes give false details...

But the more I think of that the less sense it makes.

Read the whole post in context, I know it's their fuck up, I was questioning whether someone has used my details, but, the paperwork would surely come here as they'd have to state this address as my name wouldn't bring up a claim as it's not unique...

Quite possibly not their mistake. Quite possible that some other random insurance company has been defrauded by someone using something like your details and entered it into the system to share these details. Your company now find a record of a claim against you.

It is a policy issue with your company (as you have never claimed from them it can't be a claim issue).

All the best

That's it though, ' like ' isn't an exact match so have they just read it wrong and why has it only just come to light if the claim was resolved nearly three years ago...

Can't phone them untill Monday morning now either, and I have until the following Monday to get this sorted...

Could be exact, could be similar. Could just be the same surname and address. Honestly do not know how the system works. However the only way it is a claim issue is with the original company who dealt with the claim.

All the best

Just to fucking wind me up even more this morning I signed for another letter from these Numpties stating that my insurance will be cancelled in seven days due to them not recieving my proof of license and NCD...

So I've fired back an email to each department containing the emails they've sent me to say they've recieved both, CLOWNS, and asking for written proof that they've recieved these, again, and that no further action will be taken and that the policy will remain in place...

These idiots are winding me right up, I've been with them for years and never had any issues or problems in the past...

/FFS...
