So, I was informed today that basically my entire team at the County Council is being rubbed out.

I've been unemployed before and it was the lowest point of my life, (bad enough that I spent more than one evening standing over bridges thinking it might not be such a bad idea to jump). I really don't think I'm up for another bout of scummy benefit scrounging.

I really am worried because I know - if I am honest with myself - how quickly I can go from stable office worker to fucked up mess.

So I need to find something quick. I do have (as far as I know, at this point) a few months before the "structural changes" come into play, and it is possible that I might be redeployed. But I can't hang around and hope that I am. I need to find something soon.

I now have to put everything on the back burner: forget about the house I was moving into, forget about driving lessons, etc.

NOt quite sure of the point of this post. Just seeing if anyone has any advice? Although I think I'm damned, to be honest.

Not sure if this will help ... as my tactful and empathy gene was removed at birth.
But: I go through this every year at my place ... for the past 7 years Smile
Pre 08 = numerous redundancies/simplifications/realignments/whatever they call them year to year.
December 08 = I was made redundant and found a new role at my company.
December 09 (few months ago) = my whole department was told we are being outsourced.

Now I do understand the fact that its a bit of a bummer ... but the whole 'ending it all' bit is alien to me.
Its just a job ... and in 15 years you will look back at this 'disaster' and go "what was I so worked up about".
ie: Things work out ok in the end ... they always do.
May be a bit hard for a while... but long term its all good.

I've spent nearly 13 months on the dole. Now that's depressing. Laughing

Doing yourself in? It's crossed my mind tbh but fcuk that shit. It's a recession, you just have to muddle through like everyone else mate. Karma

I've just got 6 weeks temp work (shitty order picking at a factory) that should tax & MOT my car, so that's one less thing to worry about I suppose.

Man up and muddle through. (That sounds harsh but I understand what you're going through). There's not much else that you can do. Karma Smile

Sorry. I forgot my other back up plan which always keeps me sane.

If everything does turn to rat shit and you have nothing left to live for (and I have always believed that men are a gnats whisker away from success and being destitute):
Then just focus on those that have done you wrong ... such as the HR department and the senior managers that seem to keep their jobs year after year, despite making changes to things that dont work that they put in the year before.

and Go Postal.

Aye, I do likes a bit of Falling Down.

Finding A job is not so bad. Finding a job that either pays well or isn't wank... harder at present. Especially if you don't know what direction you want to go in and have no previous experience (job wise) to work with.

Fooking recession.

Which is a point. Silks my sweet. Are you still up for long term fractal discussion?

Not good, try n turn it into something posetive.

Id be pissed off if Ilost my job now, mainly because they have spunked money up the way on skiving contractors and not given us a pay rise for 2 years and before then only 1.4k in 2 years (4 total).

BUT, Id use it as an opportunity to go and do something a drn site better and get away form all the twats that dont know how to behave.

I work in the Council (not for them - 3rd party).

Our Council are pay freezing and making redundancies this year too - shame, but they have in the past paid quite well and looked after their staff.

how long have you been with your company?

if they have other vacancies that you could do they have to offer you the chance of moving their, also usuall redundancies go last in first out (thats the way it worked on my team when they made cuts) so if you've been there a while you might be safe.

They may also get rid of every one and make them reapply for the new position they create.

If I were you I would use the next few months to apply for everything you could possible do, you may find you are offer an place some where else and a place in your present job.

also don't go jumping of bridges its not really fair on the poor guy who got clean up after you is it Rolling Eyes

Vid was good though, if just a tad dated. Have just (finally) finished James Gleick (sp) - Chaos. So dated as well, but had a whole chapter on the Mandelbrot set, as well as a lot of stuff on turbulent flow and fluid dynamics Christmas Hat

The music did remind me of the South Park episode Major Boobage. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it already Wink

I have mis communicated.
Almost means: 'almost there'.
Chased it and no joy means: 'put pressure to get the details and couldnt get hold of the person'.

Dont cry .. have a white lines fractal:

Oooh, Professor Al-Khalili.

Did anyone else watch the three part series about the elements presented by him: Chemistry: A Volatile History?
That was also very interesting. Shame it's not on iPlayer.
