Why not ask the test centre? Or your local riding school?
Things have changed since I took my test so I wouldn't want to advise you in case I'm wrong!

***GOOD LUCK!!!***

1: what side should i put my foot down?

The left.

2: should i stay at speed limits or keep up with traffic?

If you go over the speed limit, you'll fail.

3: is it really hard to pass?

Depends. If you've been practising your manouvres, are doing all your checks in the right places, your lifesavers, your emergency stops then it's not hard. If you haven't...

4: how do they grade you? is it the same as a car test?

Yes.

5: is there any little pointers you could give me?

Concentrate. Talk yourself through the order in which to do things. Relax.

If you haven't had any lessons, just remember what you were told during your CBT.

It would have helped even to have had one lesson, so that you know what to expect.

Left, allways cover the brake with your right foot, this helps for hillstarts

2: should i stay at speed limits or keep up with traffic?
keep up with traffic but do NOT exceed the speed limit. if cars are doing 60 in a 60 limit you do 60, if they are doing 50 you do 50.

3: is it really hard to pass?
easier than the car test, but first time pass chance is quite low.

4: how do they grade you? is it the same as a car test?
they use the exact same marking sheet for both car and bike test.

5: is there any little pointers you could give me?
Rear observations. forget them and you have failed.

You will be asked to do an emergency stop, and then asked to do a U turn in a normal road (well it'll be quiet residental road type place) without hitting the kerb, or putting either of your feet down.

You really should have at least got one of the little books telling you whats in your test so you can practice the bits which you are finding harder. It will also give the examiner more confidence in you if you're more aware of what is happening and what he want you to do when he says "okay, now do a U turn" and what he is looking for. Neutral

Best of luck with the test, and if you're ready you'll pass it with no problems. Thumbs Up

I'd suggest you get your arse down to the bookshop and buy the 'How To Pass Your Bike Test' book asap.

There's the u-turn and the angle start, emergency stop and I can't remember what else.

Not quite prepared are we ? Rolling Eyes

You should have asked last week when you joined then at least you'd have a chance to practice.

Good luck anyway Thumbs Up

U turn - put a foot down and you have failed.

Emergency stop, make sure you use the rear brake as well as the front.

My U-turn I had to pul over. walk the bike in a u-turn and then ride the bike for another u-turn.

DONT FORGET LIFESAVERS!!!

if you move more than a few metres before starting your U-turn, do another one.

good Luck, you must be pretty confident. Shocked

Don't try this at home kids !!

I would have at least had one lesson and asked them to do a dummy test for me.

Being able to do anything they ask if one thing, but knowing what they're looking for is another. Knowing what they're looking for would be covered in a book, or it would be covered in lessons. I wish you the best of luck as I suspect you will be needing it. Neutral

no offence, but people like you annoy me, ok great i've only been riding on the road for a year, but i still needed all 4 and a half of my lessons. the chances are, you wont pass. but remember

mirrors
indicate
shoulder
maneuver
shoulder
turn

and you should be alright.

emergency stop. you will be asked to go around the block and when you come back round your examiner will at some point put up his hand, when he does this, hit both brakes and stop as soon as you can. just before you come to a stop put in your clutch. then put your left foot on the floor once you are stoped, (don't go down the gears). then look over your right shoulder, then left shoulder, then if its clear put the bike in first, do your lifesaver and move off, if something is coming, or you stall, paddle the bike over to the side of the road and start it up then go.

u turn. he will take you into another quiet street and tell you to get off your bike and put it on the stand, you will then be told to take it off the stand and walk it round doing a u turn. This is to prove that it is possible to do a u turn in the road. then he will ask you to get on the bike and start it up. you must take a life saver, start moving, another life saver, then do the turn, then straighten up, then lifesaver, then stop and await more instructions. when i did mine (a few days ago) the road he chose for me was very tight so be careful.

uphill starts. he will ask you to pull over on the left in a safe place (ie, not in front of drive or opposite a junction or near a junction or in a bus stop etc) then he will just say ok carry on, and you will just need more revs, but don't forget your lifesaver.

those are the only 3 maneuvers you should need to do, just remember as your riding to keep checking your mirrors and keep scanning everywhere etc.

It is perfectly possible to pass your test without having any lessons. I did it, so has Robby. On my first test it was really me learning more details as to what they were looking for, and I failed on foot down in U turn. Second attempt I knew more what they were looking for, and failed on something daft like I didn't predict or expect the possiblity of the car in front changing lanes without indicating. Third time I passed.

I don't know how this compared to having a load of lessons and passing first time, but failing once is no big deal really.

Even if you have had lots of lessons doing as much reading and finding out about the test before hand can only help you. So leaving it to the last night is not going to be benefical. It's like students leaving an essay until the night before it's due and it becomes rushed and slighty bodged.

ok fair enough ste i can see where your coming from, but would not you not been able to read where that car was changing lanes be very bad for the fact that if you had passed, you wouldn't really look out for it, which could land you in an accident...

zzr_peak,

DAS Test Ride / A2 Test Ride

Dominate the middle of your lane that you are in.

Make sure you do them lifesavers when needed (turning right or left, overtaking cars, passing parked vehicles, going round left or right bends etc).

Use your mirrors often, make sure you move your head to look in them.

Make sure you don't cut corners, right turn.

Don't pull out infront of traffic thats traveling from left to right and right to left, make sure the gap is big enough for you to pull out, cos if you make any vehicle slow down or skid, your get a bad mark (S or D).

Indicate well and at the correct time, and choose the correct lane on the road.

Don't put your foot down on the U-Turn, instant fail if you do.

Don't run a red light, instant fail if you do.

Emergency stop, don't lock the wheels up. Once you have stopped, check over your shoulders (right and left) and then move the bike to the left side of the road without getting off the bike.

Correct use of speed as and when needed (30, 40, 50, 60, 70), you need to make progress, no good doing 35mph in a 50 or 60 limit if the road ahead of you is clear.

In the wet, remember the riding distance is increased to 4 seconds, so plan ahead at all times (even in the dry).

In the wet your braking distance is also increased, so make sure you leave a nice gap infront of you and the car ahead.

Revision -- Bike maintenance, and carrying a pillion, and adjustments needed when you have a pillion on the back.

Also remember your CBT basics -- BOLTS + FIGS and everything that you was / have been shown / taught by your instructor.

Most of all, relax and concentrate on the road ahead of you and follow all the instructions that the examiner gives to you.

I am dying to know did you pass?

I must admit my money would be on your failing - sorry but not even checking out what they want in the test strikes me as...frankly... stupid!!

If you do pass will that mean you are safe or just lucky?

Lessons are there for a reason! Ok so some people do pass with no lessons - but how many of them are good riders?

I guess some people just have nothing to learn huh?
