The bike really didn't want him to do that, how many times did it cut out and try it's best not to start? I could hear the starter motor begging for mercy not to fire the engine, but no. He was too determined lol.

I wouldn't want to trust a bike like that to get me anywhere.

Its is perfectly safe to skim warped disk on a lathe providing they are thick enough but doing it without any sort of precision measuring equipement an a grinder is fuckin' mental.

Bet he cuts his own tread when his tyres are bald too...

While that is ridiculous I'd say me using my feet as my brakes in January while riding in the snow to prevent further lowsiding was more of a braking bodge-job than this

Ok if I and right in my way of thinking brake disc's are actually toughed steel, because they have to live up to the life of brake pads.

I am the master of bodgery at work with jobs but the stupidity of that even surpasses me. Grinding anneals steel which makes it softer. Why or who the fvck whould do that to a brake disc? I mean I remember the thread over a year ago about the lad who thought it was ok to bash his warped disc with a mallet. I would far moe suggest that than doing this.

The human hand is far to inprecise to grind than amount off without wobbliing or fucking it up.

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS CUNTS IDEA AND GRIND YOUR DISC.

and its a shitty rear brake anyway, i probably would have just removed the calliper but ill keep that in mind for next time



i crashed my bike once, miles from home, and bent the wheel so bad that it couldnt get past the forks, i bashed it near straight (not really even close to straight) with a big rock, was a fun shakey ride home

also broke a drive shaft in a car and got 50km back home using fence wire and bits of wood to brace it

I'm sure he will be upset your comments if he sees this thread. With every consideration to safety, he has used the correct disc for this application in his angle grinder. Many peop-le would have been tempted to just face it off using a cutting disc but Mr Ferret has taken the time to go and fit a thicker grinding disc.

I've seen a mate put a beautiful circlip groove in the end of a starter motor shaft he'd cut back so it fitted in his bike using a similar technique.

He clamped the shaft in a pillar drill, set it spinning then cut the groove with an angle grinder. You wouldn't have known it hadn't been done on a lathe.

To be fair to him, he did say that it's just a temporary thing until he gets a new disc. Taken that way, it's more acceptable. His engine sounds a little bit on the ropey side too.

Just got back from a weekend away in derbyshire with him and the rest of the rat bike zone lot.

He had a nightmare trying to get it started this morning too!

Phil is a cracking bloke, and im sure he`d probably be a little upset about some of the comments on here, but each to their own.
Top bodging sills meant he was able to ride up and enjoy a cracking beer fueled weekend.
That and the -7c evenings and 5 inches of snow and collapsed tents this morning

They normally know an incredible amount about their bikes and are normally quite good at proper engineering when they want to be.....

Hell its only a rear brake..... I know a fair few people that have ridden without a rear at all on occaision.....

Just watched that again and noticed a couple more things - he's holding the grinder in his left hand only, with the camera in his right. The front brake hose looks to be just lying on top of the tyre, and there appears to be no bolt holding the top end of the nearside rear shock on.
