Just been wondering what are sports 600-1000cc bikes like for mpg, riding sensibly and then giving it some?

Not sure, somewhere between 30 and 50mpg I don't notice to be honest. It is in the car where it hurts more.

I get 35-40 on a Honda Hornet (91-99ish CBR 600 engine) through town in rush hour never getting above 40mph. On the motorway I can get anything up to around 55mpg

Normal average riding you should get around 50mpg.
Being gentle (commuter mode?) 60 or better is possible.

The 125 was amazing.

The 600F was utterly stunning - I reckon it returned around 50mpg

The 600RRs have both been totally shocking and drink petrol quicker than most 20 something year old girls i know drink tequilla.

With some spirited riding I can empty 18 litres inside 120 miles.

Depends really, griefing it will get 85 miles before reserve. (15litres) When I commuted on it, and was a bit sensible I got 120miles.

50-55mpg fast a-road commuting on a gsxr600 srad with lots of slowing down for villages / roundabouts

Plus in 50 miles you've probably used caused at least £2 worth of tyre wear. Sad

I've worked out my average on th GSXR to be around 42 mpg but could not tell you exactly between fillups (i.e. sometimes a bit more throttle happy than others).

This is based on me getting approx 130 miles from the 14 litre fuel fill before I start eating into the reserve.

Will be interesting to see if my ave mpg goes down when the weather picks up i.e. dry roads mean faster average speeds?

God knows what it works out at but on the Gixxer it's a 17L tank, and it'll do on average 110-120 to a tank before I need to fill it up.

That's a combination of local commuting and giving it berries.

Cheers mate, Thumbs Up.

Dont think that's too bad actually. Mind you I'll have to see how much that changes with this race can on now, havent run it until the fuel light comes on yet.

GSXR1100 (1052cc "slabby") with mikuni RS36 carbies and pods

40-45 on the motorway doing 80ish, 25mpg spirited riding.

FZR1000EXUP

45-50mpg on the motorway at 80ish, 25 ish spirited.

I hear the latest sports 1000s are actually pretty good on juice plodding on the motorway due to very tall top gears.

On the Blade I'm getting about 40-45mpg on the motorways. London traffic kills it completely due to mostly 1st gear work. On a serious hoon, I still get about 35mpg which is still pretty respectable.

The ZX6R was more frugal getting about 50mpg on long motorway stints and 40mpg on fast blasts.

I found that after adding an end can and having the PCIII mapped, I was getting more out of my tank by about 5 miles til reserve which on the motorway, over a long term, counts for a lot.

Used to get around 40-45mpg out of my 600 sports bikes, 90% use was commuting.

Blade was around the same, if not a little more. Less need to use revs, more inclined to be lazier with the throttle. Carbs seem to be more fuel efficient than the injected bikes I've had.

2008 ZX10R,

Dropped to low 20s on a track day. Got 49mpg on way to track day with panniers tank bag and passenger cruising at 90mph on the A1M for ~50miles.

If you use the twist grip alot and spend alot of time in the 3 figure bracket (very easy as 1st gear does that) it will still sit in the high 30s no probs.

My old ZX7R could also return high 40s on a good commute, getting 150miles before reserve from time to time....that includes a quite few WOT runs into 3 figures.

I usually get around 35mpg on the SP1, i dont know how you lot get such low MPG on your 600-1000 IL4's

are you pinning the throttle in 6th at 20mph or something?, im not exactly a slow rider either.

On the thundercat I got about 45-50mpg, the gsx-r 600 barely gets 35mpg but I've not really ridden that economically yet.
