As part of my degree I have to collect some feedback on market preferences regarding security devices as I am designing a new one for my degree.

1. With regard to all security devices, which points do you consider most important?
(Please Rate. 1 = Most important)

* Looks
* Size
* Weight
* Price
* Brand
* Reviews/Recommendations
* Insurance discount (some alarms saved me 100s)
* Other, please give details.

2. When do you most use your security devices?

* Taking with you to secure the bike away from home
or
* For home security
or
* All the time

3. Please rate which type of security device is your favourite?

* Alarms (which brand? )
* Disk lock
* Cable locks
* Chains and locks
* Datatag/smart water
* A combination (if so which?)

4. Which type of lock mechanism do you prefer?

* Key
* Number combination

Thanks for reading, I appreciate any positive response.

The smell. And how it feels next to the skin.

2. When do you most use your security devices?

During sex.

3. Please rate which type of security device is your favourite?

Fluffy handcuffs and/or ball gag.

4. Which type of lock mechanism do you prefer?

Safe word.

To be honest the only security device that is worth anything is a highly visable one on a bike, which might deter the casual thief.
Other than that, as any bike can be simply picked up and put in the back of a van. The rest are nothing other than a waste of money.

Alarms.... How many people actually take any notice of them when they go off.....

Smart water/Data tag.... Does it stop the bike being stolen... NO... And how many parts are then recovered due to the markings... Bet its under 1%.

I reckon that you can't beat the alarm mine with the blank shotgun cartridge. Costs 20 quid at the most.

Surely the most important point is how secure it is.

It can be bright green, smell nice and cost 13pence, but if its less secure than the warped ones mind then the rest of it's points would be ermmmm pointless.

Agree entirely. A really massive oversized bright fuck-off yellow chain with a padlock the size of your face is clearly the best.

But it's about striking a balance of practical and beefiness I guess. At the moment I have a garage, so I only lock up when I'm parking the bike elsewhere. I don't have a topbox or any of that rubbish so it has to fit in the underseat storage. It's a tough one.

Think that answers most of the questions!
