Hey, iv got a cb250 two fifty here, and its running pretty shitty at the moment, let me explain the symptoms

Starts on the button every time, choke on idles fine, once on the go things are a little different, obviously keeping the choke on once running will make it run too rich, so naturally take some/all the choke off

once the choke is taken off, the throttle lags awfully, put on throttle, fuck all happens, then bam, there it is, get the revs up its ok, when they come back down again, slow control and pulling away is very jerky for this very reason, lag before the power comes on

Pulling on choke however cures it somewhat, still a bit of lag, but no where near as much, but obviously now im running rich, and i get the odd backfire...not good, and of course once im in traffic idling it starts to die as it drowns itself, so take choke off to get it to idle fine, and there it is, the lag is back....

so after that very boring description of what happens, could anybody perhaps point me in the direction i should be looking to get the beast running ok again?

My first thought is the carb mixture screw needing adjusting? my other thought was perhaps maybe a fuel line maybe being a bit blocked or something?

Any ideas on whats wrong with it? im going to try and tackle it tomorrow

Cheers fellas

Mike

have you checked your idle speed?

check the airbox breather (in any) to make sure there is no water in there.

i usually chk my breather every couple of days.

before you do anything else, drain the float bowl.

Turn the fuel tap to OFF and undo the bolt on the bottom of the float bowl, fuel will come out of the spigot.

You can catch this in a clear glass cup-hold it up to the light, if there seems to be a line horizontally, thats a load of water which would explain the problem.

Sorry if this a daft question. But how does the water get into fuel tank in the first place?

And how do you prevent it happening in the future?

im a muppet, had a look and i noticed when i stuck the breather back on, it had caught on something and the last part was pointing vertically.... perhaps something was in there and couldn't escape, its now running great again...

top tip, when working on your bike and your on a roll, dont carry on till 5am, you make retarded mistakes...

cheers for the help chaps

In addition to the leaky cap mentioned by CaNsA, air contains moisture and the tank will have a breather system. Some water is bound to condense from the air on the inside of the tank. And on many bike the fuel filler is recessed so in the rain some water can accumute around the cap and drop in when it is opened (there is probably a drain hose from the area to try and stop this happening, but they can get blocked up easily).

All the best

Keith
