Now even though I am only on a GS125 I still seem to have epic moments. e.g. today I had 2.

1. Way back from college, nailing it home, there is this awesome soft S bend on a kind of peak with a huge drop behind it so I go over it about 60ish and then more on the way down. Anyway they resurfaced recently so it is nice and smooth. I was looking forward to this bit, ass back, head down and I come over the top and see diesel everywhere. The road has a huge spill and I just think "oh shit" and in my mind I expected the front to go light and slide out but it didn't, the only thing that got me was the adrenaline.

2. Fairly dark, coming home from work in my farm helmet which is the cheapo one I use for going to the farm where I work and back. Anyho, the visor is scratched and blurry as I haven't washed it so I can't see much, following a fiesta that just stopped in the middle of a bend. I have drums all round and the back one needs setting up which I am doing tomorrow so all I have is front drum in the wet. I pull the brake lever back to the bars but no way am I going to stop in time, so instinctively I stamp down from 5th to 1st, almost in slow motion. bang bang bang bang, dump the clutch... cue fishtail into the verge next to the car. Turns out he stopped because there was a lorry coming the other way on this tight bend.

Anymore adrenaline filled moments?

I remember writing this in a thread about leaves:

Quote:
I'm finding out recently that even just pouring rain (creating standing water on the road) is enough slippery to be quite fatal. For the first time on friday I managed to do a two wheel drift on my bike which scared the hell out of me. Took a little slip road that bypasses a roundabout on the A27 at about 40MPH. I could feel the tires both losing grip as I leaned but forced the bike to lean anyway just the right amount to get me around the bend while making sure the throttle stayed exactly as it was.

I've never felt both tires let go of the road at the same time like that before but I'm so glad they both gripped again before the corner finished.

I remember that bringing about quite the adrenaline rush Very Happy For me I think there are too many times to count, car doors, cars pulling out, pot holes, actually going off the road but finding enough dirt to still brake safely without hitting anything...

Tonights journey home from work was pretty terrifying - never ridden in rain like it. Stair Rods, sheet water on the roads, spray, visibilty, close visor - mists up - open visor - eyes stinging with water.
Ther are no such things as 100% waterproofs either.

When I took my bike to Dublin I went for a blast into the Wicklow mountains... I found this one straight that looked as though it went on forever and with it being a beautiful June day, I decided to pin the throttle back and really see what speeds the old hinckley lump was capable of. I'm not sure at what speed I hit that hump in the road, but I'm fairly certain it was in the triple figures. I've never gone from such sheer panic to sheer relief to sheer exhilaration so quickly before in my life. Having both wheels off the ground was something I'll always remember, but something I'd definitely like to be prepared for next time!

Part of me wishes I'd taken some pics of that place... Another part of me says that I was there to enjoy it, not to bring photos back to post on here... But all of me wants to be back there as soon as possible! (do a google image search and you'll know what I mean!)

A sheep decided to step out infront of me at 90mph, missed by a foot or two. That got me adreniline going!

Overtaking in the wet, and when crossing the white line the back wheel span, felt like a lifetime it was spinning but was probably a second lol

Highsiding, was a wierd outta body experience. Just remember hearing someone (me) go aaaaaaaargh! Then BANG. Wan't fun at all.

Going over a mountain pass in Italy, only to find Hannibal was the last person to venture up there, given the state of the 'road'... Cool Laughing

I remember my highsiding experience as incredibly fun but I'm not quite sure it's supposed to be described as epic. It's supposed to be a fail I think?

Just a few weeks ago, managed to lose the front of the Bandit at about 50mph on a patch of oil (or possibly ice) and slid the front wheel what felt like two or three feet to the right.
It was on a motorway slip road / turnpike which has a solid rock wall on both sides (A483 Fabian Way, Swansea, on to the M4 eastbound for anyone who knows the area), so if we'd come off, there'd be nowhere to go except into the wall and under the following traffic.

I also remember some years ago when I first stared riding, I was on a CG125 riding south from Brecon, and over the brow of a hill, suddenly found a number of sheep on the road. I managed to steer between them, but the O/H following me in the car had to brake really sharply to avoid hitting them

Italy - mountain passes. Snaking left right, left right, beautiful roads. Fully luggaged up Speed Four, kneedowns aplenty.

Right hand side riding, left hand corner. 60/70mph.

Pull out of the corner, knee dragging along the deck, having the time of my life - whats on my side of the road, 100 feet in front of me?

BMW M5 headlights.

Saw my own death that day, quite enjoyed it.

I have a few that I will always remember.

1. On the way to a funeral I was following my mother in her van. Could see ahead that the road becomes a 60 so thought I would overtake her and have a bit of a blast along that country lane. Just as I was overtaking my mothers van she swerved into the right hand lane, I managed to swerve aswell and right up against the path. I looked across and saw this face of terror looking back at me. I pulled ahead and went for the hoon. Got to the funeral and it turns out just as I decided to overtake somebody at the side of the road had opened their car door and she had to swerve to miss it lol. Nothing like nearly being killed by your mother is there lol.

2. Was a pure Wtf moment for me. I was riding along the main road through my old town and was probablys doing a wee bit over the limit. I looked ahead and saw an old man at the side of the road waiting to cross at the island, I saw he had seen me but I decided to come off the throttle a little just incase. When I was about 5 metres away from him his dog ran out infront of me, the man then stepped out after him, I slammed the brakes on which did nothing and everything went slow motion it was like something out of the matrix. I managed to fit between him and the dog, all I could hear was somebody going "woowooowoowooowoo" turns out it was me lol. Both man and dog were fine my arsehole was clenching like mad and my heart was racing. I've deffo learnt to never trust pedestrians.

3. Also them little painted circle roundabout things are a right laugh if you take a corner over one lol.

I posted this in this thread
here

on my usual route into town through godzillas and dinosaurs and tanks and stuff i was overtaking a lorry and bus appeared in front of me, blatted through the gap infront of the lorry and skimmed the bus with my elbow only to find an Alien waiting for me.

https://i34.tinypic.com/2hyvuis.jpg

everything is 100% true, apart form the godzillas, aliens, tanks and dinosaurs.

It was quite epic, but i didnt get that uber adrenaline rush thing, i just felt "that was a bit close"

Aye, nearly kill yourself enough times and it all barely nudges your adrenal gland. Bastard. I have to be /very/ close now Laughing

Most epic near death for me was coming out of a 90degree left on the A5, kneedown and pretty lairy, only to spot a hatchback ~50-100 yards away. Hugging the left curb. Stationary. And indicating right in to a side road.

Nothing was coming the other way, but he was just being slow. Had the choice of slam on or power round the right hand side and hope. I picked scrub off as much as possible, then think. I was pretty much on the lines as I exited (like you should be), but somehow locked the back up which swung the rear round ~45degree, pointing the bike at the left curb where he was /just/ moving off from. Shot through that tiny gap like a missile Laughing

I think I may have woken the poor bastard up abit.

Epic and not near death, was coming out of a corner kneedown in anglesey and banging it up on the back wheel. Epic enough, but there was a chav and his girlfriend in a Nova coming the other way. I think his girlfriend actually jizzed herself from the look she gave me Cool

Back in the dim and distant - I had passed my test maybe a year earlier (no restriction on power after your test back then) I had a GSX600F. I was going round a tightish left hander on a country road and I was either going too fast or bottled out leaning it over enough (prob the latter if I'm honest), anyway ended up going wide only to see a large square object with the word SCANIA across the grille coming towards me - went wider and just squeaked through the gap between the huge dumper lorry and the right hand kerb.

I had to stop after that to have a fag and calm the shaking.

My hairiest moment was when I was taking off from the traffic lights in the A10 near Edmonton / Enfield in the pouring rain.

There is a perfect almost 1/4 mile straight from the lights (absolutely epic stretch of road for picking the front wheel up). Squeezing through a cement lorry and a hilux pick-up a fox runs out in front of me and I run straight over the middle.

Felt like the cut the beast in half.

One of my epic moments is approaching a road I've never taken before, and I spot a "sudden dip" hazard sign. Don't think much of it as most of the time it gives me vertigo when I go up again.

But this fucker wasn't so much of a dip as the road suddenly veering 45 degrees down.

I hit it at 90 and took my first flying lesson.

Man that was some rush. Though I never quite got the balls to do it again when I came up to it a second time. Sad

One particularly entertaining heart in mouth moment happened to me the other day. Going down Jubilee Way in Dover (big old hill down to the ferry terminal) in torrential rain, doing about 60 on the RXS, when suddenly this utter twat shoots past me doing about 90 in a Merc. As he comes by, he starts aquaplaning and has clearly lost control. Car drifts in front of me turning sideways, so I move to the right and it kind of drifts back towards me like I've suddenly become magnetic. Somehow the guy slowed a bit and he then managed to go behind me (I decided to adopt the throttle open approach, as their was a fuck off great lorry behind me).

Gobshite in the car got it back under control, having somehow floated a circle right round me. Only now I had reached the bend near the bottom of the hill, and I was going too fast...and I almost aquaplaned into the barrier Shocked It was the most exciting 30 seconds or so I've had on the old RXS in a year or two Laughing
