bit of a weird question i know but one of the reasons i want a bike is i can go to a better boxing gym further away but its just occurred to me that might be a really stupid idea. has anyone tried it or is it too stupid even to attempt. maybe his should go in a offtopic section? feel free to move it. thanks

What conclusion has made you think it's a stupid idea ?...

Carrying kit ?...Bungy it to your back seat...

Sweaty after a workout ?...Has the new gym got showers ? If so use them, if not your bike gear's going to stink within a week...

Your either worried about smelling up your leathers with sweat, or are shite a boxing and worried about riding home after being knocked the fuck out.

I'm guessing it's the second option.

If it's only boxing training - circuit and bags, you should be ok. Just make sure you give yourself 10 - 20 mins to chill and take on some water before you jump on the bike.

If you're doing weights as well, then it depends how you train, how hard you push yourself. If you train to "exhaustion" then I wouldn't be jumping on a motorbike mate

yeah i do weights mostly but cant box at the local guy so was going to join one where i could box and lift but need a bike to get there. riding it back exhausted didnt feel like a good idea. and now that other people have said about sweaty leathers, carrying kit e.c.t it sounds even worse. back to the drawing board then.

I assume the OP is worried about bike control..

I've never had a problem although after hard leg work my legs can feel a bit wobbly when stopping. No problem when moving though.

You may have a problem if you strain something - but you shouldn't drive a car with an injury either if it impairs you in anyway.

Is that what you meant? Smile

i used to ride home from the gym after pretty heavy workouts, a couple of times i'd gone at it that hard it was a real struggle putting jacket and helmet on as my arms refused to go above chest height Laughing . However this only happened during the first few weeks, after that your body kinda gets used to it and the restrictive movement isn't as bad, but yeah it feels really weird trying to ride the bike when your upper body refuses to do as its told ( i never bothered with legs as i never wear shorts Laughing ).

I stopped going after a couple of months though as i wasn't seeing as much improvement as i had hoped which to be fair was probably down to me not eating right and the fact my metabilism just turns 100% of what i eat into poo

When I USED to train - lazy sod now, I pretty much trained whichever muscle group I was training to exhaustion where I had the after affects that Salty described but every week/every time I trained.
When you can barely move your shoulders due to being pumped that much or can barely move your arms after training your chest really hard then it's not really safe to ride a motorbike.

Feck I had to bum it down the stairs one day after training my legs Laughing

I used to ride my mountain bike to and from the gym - taking the car etc sort of defeats the object Laughing

Used to ride back from rock climbing/bouldering and when i had an amazing climb and pumped my arms back, using brake and clutch levers aswell as steering was quite an effort, but you adapt and it only happens for a short period.

When I finish at the gym I really struggle turning the steering wheel in my car, and that's with power steering and everything. God knows how I'd manage to ride a bike, but my car insurance runs out tomorrow so I guess I'll find out!

Unless theyre kicking you out straight after training take some food and drink with you after and sit down for 10 mins. Have your shower there etc.

This gives me enough time to recouperate enough to get home safely. If you take a big knock then someone gives me a lift and I just leave the bike in the olcked car-park and collect the next day. I do boxing only.

Man the fuck up.

One of the perks of summer is blasting to the gym in a vest and jeans Thumbs Up

I guarantee that 90% of mornings on the way to work, you'll be more dopey and weak then the ride back after even the harshest work out. It wakes you up numbnuts Laughing

We all know bikes are about reactions, not strength.

I used to ride to and from 5 a side football.

Sometimes felt a bit tired and wobbly if it was a hot day and a fast game, but not enough to be a problem riding.

It was an issue when I broke my wrist and had to get a mate to pick the bloody thing up though. Laughing

Just make sure you have a contingency plan for getting home in case of injury (in case you do get knocked the fuck out!!! Wink )

There was a thread before which asked this very question and some people got very arsey saying that if you werent being carried out on a stretcher after a workout then you were wasting your time in the gym and therefore riding a bike was out of the question.

Thankfully those tossers seemed to have pissed off so they can no longer spout any shite.

I've never had a problem with it, if anything the hardest part is getting dressed when you've given your shoulders some serious punishment, after that it's business as usual. If my mate was driving us in his car to the gym then afterwards he would have trouble steering as someone else mentioned, but really on a bike you're not doing all that much work with your arms as you would with a car steering wheel. Slight leans get me home fine everytime.

As for whether you will be able to ride given the exaustion etc, well, it's common sense really.....if you think your going to passout mid journey, then obviously it's best to sit down for 10 mins, get some water in you, maybe a protein shake or something, then hop on when you don't think you might passout at 50mph!

What has been said really. I ride the bike back from the gym after a good ~2 hour session and think nothing of it.

As long as you don't cardio to the point your heart is now barely working you should be fine.

Just my thought, don't know if you've already decided but i go to either boxing, kickboxing or an mma session twice a week, normally with a spar(+good beating) at the end and I'm okay riding my little ped home(y)
