Two things;
Most importantly, how can you tell if weight you're gaining is muscle or fat. What kind of rate of growth can you expect? I came back from Mozam a month ago ~13.7, and now I'm bouncing between 13.10 and 14... and just now I was 14.3
I've been abusing the gym 3 days a week, but I tend to eat more on days I don't go to the gym, because I'm so totally fucking bored.
I've noticed a big strength increase over the last month, and what confuses me is I can now pound out dips and chin ups merrily, when I've never been any good at them. So it can't /all/ be unemployment gut But I certainly don't feel as skinny anymore. Any tips oh gym knowledge people?
Two. What the fuck is up with the veins My forearms have started getting covered in bulging veins when I do any bicep stuff. They stay up for the whole workout, and eventually go down after a few hours. Is it blood pressure or the muscle pushing them up, or both? Lol, no roids anymore my dear. Only tried a month, and not safe for me to drink whilst on them Funnily enough it was whilst on them that I first noticed the veins poking up. But that was years back.
Matt, that could be right, but I can spend ages on a punch bag and nothing will happen. Do 5 chin ups or a couple of set of bicep work and bosh, veins all over the place.

The mirror is not my friend, it is evil. I can look in the mirror without noticing any change for 2 stone Old frog in a pot brought to boil adage. I look slightly more doughy and muffin toppy, but only slightly. And yet veins are now popping up all over the place, and like I say, I can do the two power:weight bastards (dips and pull ups) a lot better then when I started
My diet is fairly eclectic, and mainly involves guilt, but I got bitched at for not eating enough when I first got back and trained hard. I don't feel like I'm going to fall over constantly now, which is better But now the 'I'm ballooning' paranoia returns
Even if it was 2lb a week (which seems high) that would barely cover the gain, so a lot of it has to be fat But like I say, I was seriously malnourished in Mozam for a lot of it. Bless em. But I dropped a lot of muscle over there aswell, so it's not beyond the pale.
You see. Far easier to work out when I was a fat fuck Weight must go down, job done. Now... bah.
Reuben, if the veins just pop up for heat dissipation, why isn't the skin flushing (capillary heat loss is much more efficient), and why are the veins only coming up after specific exercises (ones that cause bicep failure essentialy)... ?
And this amuses me, men cope with the idea of bouncing weight all over the place. I don't think going to the gym increases blood pressure, so pretty sure that isn't the cause of highly visible veins. I think maybe bonny is that you actually have less fat on you and your veins are able to show. That was certainly the case for myself.
BTW, I have scales that measure body fat, muscle and water in addition to weight and that is obviously a good indicator of what is going on.
I haven't cycled for a while, so have lost muscle, but gained fat, but am about the same weight. Yet clothes are getting tight again, I just need some motivation to get running/cycling again. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth. |

My veins are still sticking up a bit, and it's been 48 hours

Aye, I knew it wasn't dangerous, just pretty weird to suddenly have really veiny forearms during a workout
Thanks for the info anyway.
And for general info, I've always been husky, healthily cut back down to ~15 - 15.7 (I'm 6'4, so that's not exactly fat) before my trip, and although I didn't have scale in Mozam, must of crashed down to -13 at some point. Got some weight back towards the end (when I actually ate), but this is definitely the thinnest I've been since I was about 8.

Bar should be alot better, but it depends if you're slipping as well. I have some weight gloves that are slightly too small for me that should fit you if you want them. Mmm, leather.
