Hey all,

Just finished servicing the bike which took the best part of 2 days as lots needed doing. Anyway, I got to changing the front brake pads for a new set and noticed that there were no shims where the service manual says there should be. I don't have any shims sitting around so I decided to fit the new pads 'naked'. The dealer changed them last time...

Also, I didn't have any new pad springs so I left the old ones in. The piston was a bit difficult to push back in by hand but doable and looked reasonably clean, so I put it all back together and the front wheel was difficult to spin. Is that normal with new pads, or is it because I should really put new springs in and use shims like the book says I'm supposed to? I assume the springs pull the pads off the disc so the old ones could just be tired? Or could it be that the piston is a bit sticky and I need to strip the calliper for an overhaul (although I could move it back in by hand after pumping the lever to push it out more so I don't think so)?

I ended up putting the old pads in as there was a few mm of material left on them (about 1/3ish, not near the limit mark), so they should be ok for a little while longer. Gonna order a new set of shims and springs and see how that goes.
