ok one of my dads freinds has just had a divorce and his wife wants the bikes out of the garrage so he is sellign them off .

Questions what bike is the better for day to day use?

he's after £1300 for either one
faults :
blade P reg import 14000km's plastics bit scuffed (Fighter if i buy)
02 plate 636 lost the keys needs a new red key / cdi / ignition locks set etc or find out if thatcham can sort out the imoboliser as he has lost the keys >< ( he says his wife threw them in the bin) both bikes have the v5's etc

so im stuck in a dilema Kwak or blade ..

what would you go for?

bit of a no brainer imo.

an 02 636 wont have a cdi linked to the ignition (i dont think).
thatcham alarms are just bolt on extras, so either rip it out or buy a new loom.

probably cost about £100 tops to get it going again.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-ZX636-NINJA-ZX6R-B2H-LOCK-SET-2-KEYS_W0QQitemZ260551819754QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item3caa1941ea

sell the 636 and buy an R6 because ninjas are shiiitttt

like this one right?
https://www.motorbikestoday.com/reviews/Images/ZX636_front-right.jpg

if so, then definately doesnt have a linked cdi.

alarms and stuff can usually be removed by tracing the wires back to where they join, removing them, and connecting up the wires that were split to fit the alarm. in most cases anyway.

Blade Vs Kawasaki? Hmmmmmmm very difficult. Bearing in mind I wouldnt have an old R6 if a fairy left it under my pillow while I was asleep and Kawasaki tend to knock out fragile bits of plastic with a suicidal engine, I would say go for the Honda. I'd rather have a biking icon such as the blade with a fair amount of engineering and pedigree than an old 636. I had an 06 636 and if the engineering on that is the best Kawasaki could dish out in 06 I dread to think what the 02 was like!

Matt, I normally agree with what ou sayy but I think your wrong this time Laughing

Or like my 3 month old 636 that had a noise like cam chain rattle and sounded half dead after only 600 miles! Wink

its not like you could buy the ninja, sell it,mthen buy a cbr with a grand to spare now is it?
Fucking idiots.

Cbrs have shit cam chain tensioners too remember. Seems gsxrs are the only ones where you dont hear about them being a frequent problem.

So... Buy ninja, sell ninja, buy gsxr k2

I'd disagree on the buy GSXR K2 part too but Im an argumentative prick.

My CBR had terrible cam chain rattle, after 10k miles and not a single oil change from day one.

What can I say, I hate suzukis and kawasakis.

If its a case of pure money I can live with not making a grand profit for the sake of fannying about with the typical ebay bullshit Thumbs Up

I'd go for a 636 over a blade of that year for general 'fun' factor personally - I'd say that when pushed the ninja will be pretty much as fast, only just off the blade, it will require more work, but will also 'feel' faster, which I like.

I'd go for the blade personally. The early ones are accruing in value fast becoming a classic. Thumbs Up

Ouch your right, I'm not even qualified!

BLADE!!

If you do get the 636 and chop it for an r6
make sure you budget for a new gearbox and some trackies Wink

As discussed elsewhere - I wouldn't go for mid-range for 'fun', though I do like it for daily 'boring' stuff.
However, the 636 isn't bad at all in the mid-range and I always found the blade to perhaps not make the best use of what it's got due to gearing or something.

Its not that often I agree with G on all things bike related, but he's got it in one here.

A 'P' Reg blade is basically a sports tourer compared to a '02 636. 636 for fun, Blade if you want a commuter.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Note it's the 03 that got a lot sportier and was entirely new apart from the engine - the 02 was the old J model with a big bore, but I still found it generally 'sportier', despite still being relatively 'comfortable' as far as the riding position goes.

The A1P 636 was a great all round 600, if i had to have a 600 it would be this one, all the other 600's at this time are so small they would get stuck up me arse crack and look like the sub frame would snap if i put the missus and the camping gear on them.

Between the two, it would have to be the blade, honda build quality, at least 15 bhp over the ZX with a lot more mid range, if you are worried about the 16" front i think a firestorm one drops straight in if its an RRS or RRT.
