Thought I'd just give a quick review of the 2 types of glove I've been wearing over the recent weeks and let you know how they've performed
First up we have the Hein Gericke "Claw" style Pathan glove
https://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/arryR32/IMG_1658.jpg
These were given to me by a friend who tried them and didn't get on with them. After a bit of research, it appears they're £50 new.
First impressions of them are that the build quality of them doesn't strike me as being particularly great - certainly not what I'd expect from HG based on "reputation"....
The fit is pretty good for my average sized hands and the velcro pulls are fairly good as snicking the glove in at the right places. At first, the claw style fingers feel odd to wear but after a bit of time they become a bit second nature.
However, on use this got annoying - I quite like being able to use fingers independently, especially on the front brake but also on the clutch whilst sitting at lights, I'll often pull the clutch in with separate fingers rather than my whole hand - usually the index finger, but I can't do that with these comfortably as it takes the middle finger with it, which stretches the skin between those digits and the other two. I also found that controlling the biting point of the clutch, or the roll on of the throttle, was not as precise with these due to lack of feel.
Warmth? Pretty good - not the best out of the two pairs though, we'll come onto that later. Helps having fingers together as it generates a bit of cross heating.
Waterproof? Hmm, they're supposed to be but not in my experience! A day's riding in fairly modest rain left the edges of my fingers damp, and I had gloves on that weighed twice what they started - they just seem to soak up water.
Protection? TBH, not much - they've a bit flimsy to say the least...
--------------------------------
Last up with have a new pair of Spada Contrast gloves which I bought from the bike show a few weeks back for £30.

First impressions - well stitched, nice detailing on the palm, good quality velcros, I would say superior build quality to the HG pair.
Fit is excellent with the velcro pulls being in a good position to synch it in to your hand. The inner lining is VERY comfortable and fleecy, feels nice as soon as you pull the glove on. Although quite thick, I still had a good amount of feel and the controls of the bike were not a problem like they were with the HG.
Warmth? Excellent - really toasty, even in 2-3degC temps which I've tried them in on a long motorway run. The fleecy interior does well to stop the chill.
Waterproof? Yes, so far they've been excellent. Been out today in horrendous windy wet weather and they've held up well - they don't appear to let in any water to the interior and they don't collect it like the HG ones do.
Protection? There's a degree of it yes. Good padding across the knuckles and back of hand where it meets the wrist. The fingers are quite well padded too. No kevlar or anything, but more substantial than the HG are by a long way.
Overall I'd go with the Spada over the HG for just about all reasons, ease of use, warmth, waterproofing, protection and of course also importantly - price.
Hope this helps anyway |

ha ha sorry for the spelling correction didnt mean to seem like an spelling Nazi. I just like those gloves theyve done me proud. I do know HG can be hit and miss despite reputation but as far as we know your mate may have run them through the zanussi on boil wash and destroyed any chance of the waterproofing still being intact!
Ive not tried the other gloves youve mentioned so it may be that they are far superior, but the HG's arent THAT bad! ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

I don't know what the build quality is like now but the Pathan were my winter gloves of choice for the last 3 years I was dizzying, fantastic gloves. Mostly water proof, although once they got wet they took a day or three to dry properly and by far and away the warmest I could find.
Cheers for taking the time to write this up though ____________________ I'm immortal. Well, so far. |

Judging by the way the palm of the glove is crinkled and creased, I'd say they've been ried on a radiator at somepoint.
The heat from a radiator is enough to melt goretex (sheltex is as good as the same thing) and so they won't be waterproof any longer. I have made this mistake myself
I didn't mention this though when I took them back to the shop and got them replaced ____________________
