I've been manning up over the past few months, and the torrent of shit still keeps hitting me and i'm like alright bring it on, but not this time cos my jobs on the line.
I just got back to work last year and my mood at work was aweful, people didn't want to work with me an the person i valued the most who is teaching me was scared to even talk to me, so i corrected that with a positive outlook and started putting my weight behind the company and trying to do jobs to help out like stock checking and recently moving stuff around.
I've had 2 consecutive saturdays off due to illness or pain, and now my boss thinks i'm trying to pull fast ones i.e. hangovers etc.

I've worked hangovers before where i was almost sick through out the entire day. it doesnt help that i asked last week for a day off and on the friday i went to a rugby match feeling ill to later get home an run up a fever and continuely vomited for about 10 mins.

I understand that he might think i'm doin so as i'm young and such, but my job means alot to me and i don't know how after everything i've been through learning to use my left arm and walk again he can't see this.

I didn't get a sick note on the saturday because after hours failed to come and see me and i didn't phone him after i woke up around midday still dazed and confused to speak to him.

Sorry i just need advice right now, i don't want to lose the job i fought so hard to get and then keep.

I Tried to this morning but i didn't know what to say i was just in shock he thought i was taking the piss out of him and he kept turning everything on me.
I thought that over the past few weeks of me trying harder and doing my job more accurately in the paper work department and i'm working 'smarter now' with my problem solving.
Guess i'll just have to try again tomorrow but i don't know how to approach this at all.

I will admit to the fact that it took me over 20yrs to realise it.... but always best to let things rest for a day or 2... then re-evaluate / act.

If I were you I would get your head down for a day or so ... ignore/dont react to anything anyone else says ... then book in an 'official' 30 minute chat with him.
Then simply give him a 'refined' and less emotional version of what you wrote at the top of this thread.

If you want to keep your job and it means a lot to you, take it seriously. What more can i say.
You may have already shot yourself in the foot though because for a lot of people, first impressions count. If youve already upset half the staff for one reason or another, then my advice would be to start looking for another job, and next time dont start being an arse until youve proved yourself and got your feet under the table. Thumbs Up

The staff don't dislike me, you've got the wrong impression.

Tell the boss you love the job, when you speak to them again.

As for illness, for the next couple of times, just go in...it will soon be apparent that you are unwell, then the boss can make the decision to send you home.

That way, they can see that you are dedicated to the job. Thumbs Up

Funny thing with companies and illness.

If you try and do your best and turn up feeling unwell then it's taken for granted.
If you just have one day off ill and then go back in (still maybe the worse for wear) it's seen as 'pulling a fast one' because you wanted a day off.

If you're off for 2 or 3 days then you must be genuinely ill and little seems to be said.

That's my experience anyhow. However, not helped if your company uses the Bradford Index / Factor which is then used as a stick to beat you with rather just than a measuring tool as it was intended.

ON topic: As said above talk to your boss after sitting down and thinking about it. Writing down a few bullet points may help too.

I've got this down to a fine art now. If I'm too ill to go into work then I'll always try to take at least 2 days or more off, unless it's a Thursday in which case turning up on a Friday still feeling a little ill gets a bonus.
The worse thing I could do is turn up late, FAR better off just having a couple of days off instead.

After a year of doing this the company then sends you on a day trip to an office 2-3 hours drive away to have an occupational health asessment. They pay for your car, food, drinks, parking in a city centre and of course the assessment itself, which strangely enough always comes back stating - 'Yes this person is human, yes this person will sometimes get ill, no this person doesn't have any underlying health issues'.
