tyre size question

bought a cb400 super four last week and have to say, it's the funnest little bike i've ever ridden, so much so that the 600rr is now going into hibernation.

For road riding it's absolutely perfect and just made me realise how much of a waste sports bikes are on the road as i feel i can push the little 400 much closer to its limits and get much more satisfaction in knowing i can do so without going silly mph.

thing is, after a wet ride yesterday i noticed the chicken strips on the rear tyre were suprisingly small given i wasnt pushing that hard and after todays fine weather im now running off the edge of the tyre and still feel the bike has a lot more to give.

Im not exactly a 'fast' rider and am a little confused as to how limited the lean angle is on these tyres, i currently have bridgestones front and rear 110/70/17---140/70/17 and would like a tyre that has more curve on the edges, i have a vague idea on how tyre sizes work but would like some suggestions as to what size i should be looking at to give me considerably more to play with.

Depends on the tyre - if they're BT92s, these tyres seem to have a very shallow profile - if they were BT090 and the suspension wasn't shagged, I'd expect you'd be dragging the exhaust can before the front of the tyre's strips were depleted.

I've got Roadsmarts on my Superfour - the pegs grind out a little after the strips have been shaved off the back, centre stand soon after. Mind you, mine does have slightly taller rear Hagon shocks, so not sure if the geometry plays a part on ground clearance too.

I wouldn't worry massively - you can still push it a bit past the point that you've got no chicken strips - as at that point it's only a tiny bit contact patch that is right on the edge. If you hang of decently, it gives you a decent chunk more.

It's not the size of the tyre as suggested, but the shape of the profile.

I managed 'elbow down' on bridgestone BT92s on a RS250 without being at the edge of the tyre (there was a noticeable band of knackered tyre from my multiple laps of roundabout surfing to get a good pic.)

I have Conti Sport-Attacks on the CRF and can't get anywhere near the edge :/

Not even as if i'm not trying either :/ but the lean angle is getting so rediculous now that its getting scary. Starting to get very close to needing knee sliders and i've still got a good 10-15mm to go.

So i wouldn't worry about it too much, just enjoy riding it

Salty, are they the correct tyre sizes for that bike? I've been looking around to find out what size tyres it should have, but am getting wildly varying information... One site even seeme to think it had a 17" rim on the back, and an 18" on the front

What's it like size / weight wise? My girlfriend should hopefully be doing her test in the near future, and like the look of a super four, however she is only about 5' 1".

Beet are a Japanese aftermarket company as far as I'm aware.

The downpipes look standard to me. Definitely sounds better than the standard can on mine. Although it is funny creeping up on sportsbikes on the pesky little thing.
