I just went outside to inspect the overall health of my bike to discover the chain was in fact horrendous. I'm not just talking a bit bad, i'm talking it was covered in so much filth and rush I could barely rotate the rear wheel! 30 minutes later, half a can of chain cleaner, half a can of WD-40 and an old toothbrush and it looks half decent again.

I should have taken a photo of how bad it was, but it really was appalling - imagine 2mm of muck all over the chain with large chunks of rust...

So here's the idea - grab your camera and show us what your chain looks like right now.

Probably very similar to the state it was in back end of last year (only been ridden a few times since this pic) Bike has had a good scrub since but chain is ready for a clean, lube and adjust. Il be servicing it v soon anyways so will get done then.

Genuine Suzuki OEM 525 chain and 42T rear sprocket c/w MK7 Scottoiler 18,000 miles old, adjusted twice, and never been cleaned.
It's a beaut considering I bust my last one after 15,000 miles without the Scottoiler Thumbs Up

Looks like a new chain... because... it is. Had less than 100km on it.

Preview chain had over 5000km on it maybe 3 lubes? fully tightened, still sagged about an inch, and i could hear it when pulling away....

While your chain might not be long enough to do it, if you think there is a good chance someone may try and nick your bike you really should run that chain through the swingarm or fame. It'd take someone about 20-30 seconds to remove the back wheel and then it's just a case of putting it in a van, the chain isn't your weakpoint.

its in secure car park, people park muuuuuch nicer bikes without chaining them up without problem. its more for piece of mind than anything else, and it was a bargain from hetz off here Thumbs Up. but yeah, you're right Karma
