It's been four weeks now from when I went to the PO to declare my Chaly SORN. I've received nothing in the post and it hasn't been updated online Rolling Eyes

What should I do?

I actually found out after declaring it SORN that I didn't need to because it was last taxed before 31st January 1998 so I've created hassle for myself Brick Wall

Hi,

You need to call then to find out if the received it, and get them to sent you the acknowledgement, or send the sorn in again.

if it's any consolation, I sent off a V62 for myself and one for a friend as I owed him one. He got his logbook back, and they collected on both cheques and I'm yet to hear a whisper!!

Best thing to do is to call them definitely, but they'll probably say "we ask customers to wait 25*10^3 weeks for processing of SORN applications" or similar.

Did you not send it recorded? Nothing should be sent to that shower unrecorded.

I didn't send anything, I went to the Post Office and the woman (supposedly) did everything. What she actually did was scan the barcode, print out a little receipt and staple it to my V5 and said it is now SORN Confused I was a bit suspicious.

I'll give them a ring today.

Check on line to see if it's been processed yet.

It should say 'SORN not due' by the vehicle status

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for TMH 21M are:

Date of Liability: 01 10 2008
Date of First Registration: 17 12 1973
Year of Manufacture: Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc): 72CC
CO2 Emissions: Not Available
Fuel Type: Petrol
Export Marker: Not Applicable
Vehicle Status: Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour: YELLOW
Vehicle Type Approval:
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle:
6 Months Rate: £0.00
12 Months Rate: £15.00

No idea why the date of liability is 2008, it change from whatever it was (1986 I think) to that when I became the registered keeper Confused

Date of liability is when it was last taxed/SORN expired.

You owned it long?

Why not SORN it online today.

From a call I made to the DVLA about xmas time, they chase for not declaring SORN/Tax if there has been 1 clear calendar month without tax/SORN

I had an FJ11 untaxed for nearly 7 weeks, but because it was from the 5 December to late January they said they weren't going to chase it, and haven't to date.

I understand that, but the last tax didn't run out then, so it shouldn't have changed. It should either say some time in the '80s or 2011.

I technically became the registered keeper in november but I only received my V5c just over a month ago (that's when I sorted it all out) and then went straight to declare it SORN. I couldn't declare it SORN online because of the recent change of keeper.

They can chase me up for a fine if they want, I'm not in the wrong. I went to SORN it a couple of days after receiving the V5c and something went wrong. Plus there is the fact that I never even had to SORN it but didn't realise. They say wait 4 weeks for the letter to arrive. It was 4 weeks yesterday.

I will ring them up this evening (free phone calls) and find out what's going on.

Sounds like they've made a right pigs ear of it.

When the online SORN was introduced I had a similar situation with an old bike that hadn't been on the road since the late 80's. They just accepted the SORN declaration, no questions. I think there's some allowance they make for old vehicles entering the DVLA database.

A call may be the only way to resolve it, good luck with them. I've heard that can occasionally be human there Smile

I sent my v62 off in Dec and I got a letter back from them late January saying that they'd get around to sorting the v62 out by the 2nd Feb. How they knew they'd do it by that date I have no idea but yes the DVLA are now sending letters saying that the letter you are waiting for is delayed Shocked.

It took around 6 weeks in total for it to all be completed.

Well I rung up and the guy on the phone even said that it was last taxed up to 01 10 2008 Rolling Eyes Where the hell have they got that from? It's not been M.O.Ted since 1987.

Anyway, surprise surprise, the SORN never went through (I thought something was wrong when she did it, it just seemed much too quick, literally 10 seconds to SORN it Confused) so I've just SORNed it now online. Got the little message saying I'm now liable for a fine. Tossers.

I'll update this thread once I receive the confirmation and if they ever send a fine through.

It's bloody annoying though when because they've done something to their records to say that it was taxed 20 years later than it actually was, I could get more hassle from them Mad

Would it surprise anybody to know that after doing it online nothing has arrived?

I'm getting bored of this now.
