Got some time off with a m8 next week, were both young bikers and want to go for a big ride out up into Scotland or maybe down to wales ...

Setting off from leeds, where should we go where would you go?

do you know any good over night stops about 250 - 350 mile away from leeds that we could head for with some good roads.

Is it a good plan to head up through the lakes and follow the west coast of scotland? know anywere good to stay over night?

I want some tips!

ooo! put this in touring and exploration..... then lots of pictures and text!!

what bikes are you going to be using?
have you thought about The Youth Hostel Assosation.

have a read of Alexo`s trip to Ireland... there are a few good pointers in that.

one tip i can give is have some Emergany cash stashed somewhere on the bike.
you dont need to use it, but you will have peace of mind that you can deal with an awkward situation if it comes up.
oh! tip two = take your own toilet paper, trust me Smile

I have done quite a bit of this route:

clicky

I can't say I have done Leeds to Hawes that way, I normally go from Settle:

clicky

The road from Kendal to Shap is great fun, as is the road from Penrith to Alston. And last time I was up round Kielder I had an amazing time. I'd really recommend the Penrith to Alston.

Let us know what you end up doing. Also are you living in Leeds or do you go to university here?

I am in Leeds at university doing Electronic and Computer Engineering! Sort of related Smile

Don't make the mistake of thinking it will be amazing if you go into the Lake District, there are good roads, but most of the time they are full of tourists and you can't get a decent run. There are great views, and great roads, just the traffic (and surface) lets it down.

I'd say I'd come for a ride out, but I haven't got my bike in Leeds as I haven't got anywhere to store it (but that might be changing thanks to the universities' motorbike society). Thumbs Up

would be nice to go for a ride out some time? where are you from/ is the bike? if it was not too far I would happily pillion you there so we could go for a ride Razz

argh electronics you can help me next year when I cover that stuff again...

Quite welcome to help you, or anyone elses electronic problems... but there is a chance I won't be able to help, degrees teach you only a limited amount of useful stuff.

Live near Preston, and that is where the bike is, I am across there often as my girlfriend lives local. Pretty busy with my degree at the moment so I am glad to have one less distraction sometimes.

At university I live in Hyde Park, but I will be in Woodhouse next year... if you know where they are. Had offers from the guys in the motorbike society for garages as well, but thanks though, it is appreciated! Thumbs Up

There's nothing gay about the Hoff, he's a man's man who's not afraid to wear a comfortable shirt and pants combination when the mood takes him.
