Long time..

Hi guys, it's been a long time since i last posted on here. I've had my little mbk for just over a year now, and there was a couple of months where it got no use , but now I'm using it again to get to training and just up the road to my girlfriends.

I'm learning to drive at the moment, but i don't think I'll get a car after I've passed anyway so i was thinking of looking again at a bike test and a bigger bike, just not sure how to go about it.

I've only ridden this 50cc, so should i look at getting a 125 or will lessons with a test center be enough? I'd rather not have too get a 125 as the insurance for the moped is until January '11, and the moped suits me fine really, just a little annoying being limited to the low speed.

Any comments would be appreciated, if anyone has had any experience in this? Cheers.

i think tbh you'd be alright with doing either a few hours training on a 125, or one of those intensive courses, then go on and do the test (Y)
It would be a good idea to have a go on a mates geared bike offroad or something just to get the basic idea of gears if you've not ridden one before

Well i'm hoping that i pass this car test, and all the driving lessons + travel on the moped will help with my observation, not sure other than the gears, the other stuff that will be hard to practise without my own 125 that i'll need for the test?
None of my friends have motorbikes really, or not a low cc geared one i know of ..so practise might be a little hard haha..but i think the school i did my cbt at can maybe do some geared training..

Also quick question.. i lock the moped up with a big almax.. but i'm always paranoid about it.. i am justified or just worrying haha?

i passed my test after riding a 125 with 3 minors, all which happened because of an ambulance appeared behind me along a country road and then stopped directly in front of me. if that hadn't happened i would have passed with zero minors. that was before this two module crap though

one day training and a bit of practise on gears you should have no trouble. learning to drive helps

As I say to most people, look around this forum, there are tonnes of 'what bike next threads', write down the list of bikes you have seen listed, go onto google images, look at all the bikes. Cross off your list the ones you don't like.

Then go out to a few bike shops and look at the ones you do like, and if possible go for a test ride, (if able) if not, at least sit on the bike and get a feel for it - distance from seat to footpeg, how long the reach to handle bar is, that sort of thing...

Then make an informed decision based on what suits YOU.

Yeah it's possible mate, i found most of the stuff for the bike test i had experience with from driving a car, roundabout positioning etc.
there's all the stuff like lifesavers , roadcraft etc but i think you should be ok with that after a few lessons (Y)

I passed with 3 lessons but on my own 125.
Once your used to the gears you'll be fine
