How big a tank bag for 100cc bike (RXS100)?

I've been looking at the Lidl gear and it's got me thinking. When I get my RXS I'm going to have to ride it about 120 miles from Essex to Southampton at the end of my easter break. A tank bag seems like a sensible investment.

How big a tank bag do you have for your 100/125 bike? Would a 32L bag be too big and obstruct my view of the speedo on an RXS100?

I'd worry about how narrow the tank is. Most tank bags are fairly wide and fit well on the sort of fat, flat topped tanks common on modern bikes. Plus the filler cap isn't flush on the RXS...

...but the magnets tend to be pretty strong. It would probably hold.

I've done long journeys on my RXS fully loaded with camping gear, but always lashed to the pillion seat. Personally I'd be thinking big holdall + bungies to make use of the generous seat.

It wont go fast enough for you to worry about the speedo..
to be honest, ive ben happy to fit stuff to the back of the bike as said above, or in a rucksack.
Alexio loaded his CG i believe.. which is a low powered 125, and i think he loaded the rear quite a lot, but hes still alive and his bikes still alive.... just Razz

I've used large tank bags on my RXS in the past. It's not the restricted view of the speedo you have to worry about so much as the drag effect of having a huge lump stuck on the tank slowing the bike down by up to 10mph Laughing

But the tank is plenty big enough to comfortably take a large bag, if you really want one. Much better to have a large, rear seat mounted top box though.

Well get as much storage capacity as you need for what you're taking, don't get enough and you wont be able to take everything Smile

I guess you're going to take a few stops to let the bike recover? Smile

Some interesting points you've made. I might have a look at the tank bag as I really don't know how big 32L is. I can see it being extremely useful when doing the shopping and for my trips between my uni (southampton) and home (essex). Lashing a holdall to the pillion seat is a good idea but I can imagine that being a real pain to get secure, also I don't have a waterproof cover for my holdall, which comes free with this tank bag.

edit: Just had a thought, that if the bag does turn out to be stupidly large as a tank bag then I can probably secure it to the seat and have it behind me instead. It's still a 32L bag with a waterproof cover for £20 after all. I just can't help thinking that having some kind of bag that is attached to the bike and opens at the top would be really handy for everyday use.

32L is approx. the size of a single crash helmet top box. So very big in tank bag terms.

I'd say it would be way too big for a 100cc bike, and if you are going to strap it to the seat then you might as well use an ordinary bag (which wont have the weight of magnets) and strap it down with a couple of bungy's.
If its gonna rain then just pack your stuff inside a bin liner before you put it in the bag.

have a look at the oxford 1st timer it will fit on the rxs's tank and if you decide you don't want it on there it doubles up as a tail pack!

only downside is it's not that big!

Thanks, but it doesn't look as if it's much smaller (25L rather than 32L) and it's twice the price of the one at Lidl. I'll have a look at the Lidl one on Thursday and judge for myself; if it's too big then I can just keep it for when I have a bigger bike after all Smile
