I wanna buy an iphone but is the 3G S worth the extra ££££ as opp. to the original 3G iphone?

I need a new phone as my current one is shite, but want an iphone for the cool factor. Are apps free? And does anyone know any decent place/site thats got good pay monthly on either 3g or 3gs.

Some apps are free, some aren't. It varies, although I think you can jail break them so all apps are free?

Don't personally like the iPhone, crap battery life, form over function etc. but to each their own. I admit they are ok to use once to get used to the keyboard/have small fingers.

Possibly, but remember the iPad has no phone function so different markets. The iPhone is such a money spinner Apple would be silly to neglect it especially as the 3GS wasn't exactly a major upgrade.

The Android phones are looming large and will be popular this year and Apple will try and stay at the head of the pack.

Before getting a 3GS, make sure you give them all a test first because it may be faster but maybe not a couple of hundred pounds faster. Also factor in what you'll be using it for, a 2G would suit most people & is fast enough. The only difference i notice from my 3G was that the 3G had GPS & the 2G didn't.

I picked up my 3G 16GB before xmas for £290 & my 2G the other week for £150.

well im on my 2nd 3G and my contract is now up this month. i wasnt going to bother with the 3gs thinking there was no differance. anyway my mates just got the 3gs and i cant belive how much quicker it is...im about to send my phone to ebay hell or muzuma or how ever you spell that shit..

I have had 2 iphones now, the one I have at the minute is jailbroken but to be honest there isnt a lot more I do with it.

I would also look at the HTC HD2 it looks a great piece of kit

Like Joe says, you can be 99% sure a new one will be out in June/July and that it'll accompany V4 of the iPhone OS. Probably worth the wait, unless you're desperate.

What do you suppose will the advantages of the new one? The only thing I can think of is the ability to play flash video, view GIFs, bluetooth as standard, flash on the camera........not really much else.

Any ideas?

You may get better battery life but I doubt flash will be coming at all.

Would like to be wrong but if it was to come then it wouldn't come to the 3g or 3gs, Apple have already stated that its too hungry and would eat the battery.

If you think an iphone is useful to you now then get one if its not then I doubt that any changes in June will make you buy one.

It won't support flash, so don't get your hopes up there. Tbh I'm not sure what to expect hardware-wise. It seems as though all of the obvious stuff is in there now. My hope for the new software is multi-tasking, but that'll be available for older models too. At worst you could expect to get more storage for your money. A 64gb model may be on the cards. One possibility is that the iPhone will get the same processor that's been developed for the iPad. That would mean another big performance improvement.

Hmm it's already fast enough on most counts so I can't see the mega appeal of a faster one coming out, certainly wouldn't be incentive to go out and renew a contract for.

Re: adobe flash - I recall a while ago there being talks between adobe and apple to actually get something sorted - I take it that never came to pass then and apple are just being arseholes about it?

Apple are control freaks and want the app store to be the one and only means of running code on the iPhone. Flash would go against that. In addition, Adobe have done a terrible job of optimising Flash for OSX over the years and even today there's a vast difference in its performance on OSX and its performance on Windows.

On top of that is the fact that Apple are fairly committed to an open web, as opposed to one based on proprietary technologies like Flash. Put all that together there's not a chance in hell that Flash will be added to the iPhone at any point in the future, however much Adobe would like to see it.

I got the 3gs 16gb 18 month contract @ 40 per month

Paid £90 for the phone at the Carphonewarehouse. If you have an old phone you can trade that in for a few quid as well.

If you want a cheaper one, go to the 02 shop and call the sales number and ask for a REFURBISHED one.

Dont buy the 3g version what ever you do. 4g comes out in 12 months.
