Gear Indicator

I can't work out how it works, can anyone shed light on it for me?

I think it measures the tacho output against the speed of the front sprocket or something.

Bikes have been ridden for millions of years without gear indicatiors, I think they are about the most pointless gadget for bikes since the motorcycling ashtray.

If they cost a fiver and could be fitted in seconds I'd consider it, but otherwise... no.

I like tat on my bikes, its why I ride a Honda. Just interested in how it wires up. There is very little info and apparently even less electronics. No means of programming speed to revs make it even more baffling for me.

I bought a similar one that had to be set up with a magnetic trigger on the front wheel. I never got it working right, sorry, absolutly no help whatsoever.

I assume it works the same as the Acumen/Datatool style ones. Basically you wire it into your loom, program it by running through each gear then it knows your gear.

As long as you know what cables what you can use the Acumen install guide, well thats my plan (hope) anyway.

I tried to fit a datatool one to a mate's R6.

You have to 'teach' it. By revving to a certain rpm in each gear and holding it.

We completely failed and binned it.
If this works I could be tempted at that money though.

I just got mine through with no instructions at all Sad

I emailed the company and they said they'd speak to the manufacturer.

It has no 'learn' features like the Acumen, so I hunted a little further and found that most modern bikes have a Diagnostic System connector which basically tells the device the gear.

The ZX6R apparently has one according to Healtech... although theres no mention in the manual (just a single cable you ground out!) so I guess I'm out of luck.

I'll see what the seller says anyway, it's certainly not Universal anyway Smile

Forget it mate. they are just very simple switch based lights. Worse than that, they only go up to the number four.

They work on the basis that they only cost £4 and no wiring diagram means most buyers give up. The few that work it out can't be bother to pay an extra £3 for return postage.
