If you think about it, fuel is 111.9p/liter ... that is £5.09/gallon to you and I Wink

My pre-mix 2-stroke oil for the KTM works out at 48.43p's worth of oil to mix with 1 liter of petrol ...

So ... that essentially makes fuel 160.3p/liter or £7.29/gallon ....

So +£2.20/gallon for2-stroke!! .. at only what 30mpg?? ... that has to add up!!! Shocked

My crm does 45 mpg and i top up the oil when the light comes on which is about a litre every 500 miles. But i never worry bout fuel prices, if u enjoy something then to hell with the cost tbh

That works out at almost exactly 50:1 mix ... mine is running 32:1 ... well it is not running at all at the mo Rolling Eyes

So your bike is run on 142.9p/liter ... that is still +31p/l over pure petrol Confused

Don't say that; I just bought one! Although I'm sure the good MPG of the RXS will more than make up for the 2-stroke cost, which I though was pretty cheap anyway.

I'm probably getting about 600 miles to a litre of 2 stroke oil, I think I paid £8 for my last litre, and I get 40 mpg.

So my fuel to oil ratio is 68.25:1

So at £1.11 a litre for petrol, it's costing me £1.23 a litre for the mix. That's not too bad.

Did I do that right? Thinking

Time to enjoy the two strokes while fuel is at a somewhat affordable price.

I think I can safely say that fuel will only get more expensive from now on and we are not likely to ever see a significant decrease in petrol prices again.

Come along now, smoke em up and lets kill some kittens/penguins!! Laughing

No, it is costing you £1.35/l for the mix ... oh hang on ... your oil is much cheaper than mine!!, yes £1.23 Laughing

You would be pinching your 4ss if the petrol was that much and you were putting in a 4-stroke wouldn't you!! Very Happy

Your ratio at 68:1 is well weak!! Shocked

But it's worth it Very Happy.
Probably still better than my car or van all-in, but then if I wanted cheap, I'd use the push bike (which hopefully I will be on Sunday, but that's another matter Smile ).

That figure is not 100% accurate. I'm just guessing from what I have put in it (2 litres) from an empty tank and how much is still left in it now. It's also a figure somebody else has mentioned on the TZR forum.

It does seem quite weak considering I have 2 cylinders as well, but I've never had any problems with it.

Just out of interest Blue, what oil are you using? Seems very expensive Laughing

The Gilera SC125 used 1 litre of oil per 22 litres of fuel or so, crazy consumption.

They're not *that* bad really, especially when you compare to 4 cylinder machine service costs.

IIRC my NSR125 over 4000 miles used 8 litres of Esso race 2-stroke at £9 a litre, 2 spark plugs and I can't even remember changing the air filter...if it had one.

The Bandit uses 4 plugs, 4 litres of 4-stroke oil (£18) an air and oil filter.

I reckon there's less difference than most think. Valve clearances for a 4cyl at a dealer could easily equate to a simple rebuild of a 1 cyl 2-stroke. Plus my NSR's insurance and tyres / brake pads were cheaper etc etc.

You are not comparing like for like ... do the maths again using your NSR125 and a CG125 OR your Blandit and say a RG500*?? ...

*can't think of a really good 2-stroke equivalent, but you get the idea!! Wink

They don't really make larger capacity 2-stroke road bikes any more though. <shrug> I suppose an RS250 could be compared against a 4-cyl 400 running costs...

My point about rebuilds still stands. I trashed my NSR's piston & barrel when it went but still cost less to fix by Honda than a full dealer (valves et al) service for a mates 4-cyl.

2-stroke oil has always been pricy for the good stuff but I pay £6 a litre for 4-stroke oil so it's not as bad as you say IMO.

They're not bad when you consider the cost of servicing a proper-light weight 4 stroke enduro bike at the prescribed intervals Smile.
(Yes, you seem to have been unlucky with your smoker, but seen plenty of people have bad luck with their diesels Smile.)

Conventionally yes, but with a pumped system they can run the oil mixture quite a bit weaker as it doesn't need to be over rich to compensate for times when the throttle is closed.

All the best

Mine is 50:1 roughly. I use fully synthetic oil. And 50:1 is what it says on the bottle (Motul 710).

I get 45mpg.
