I have just ordered an Akrapovic end can for my R1. After doing much digging around looking at different makes it seems the road legal can with removable baffles is the next generation of road legal/illegal systems.

What a superb idea. One little screw, my bike sounds like sex, when the MOT is due, two minutes later, the bike is legal.

Excellent!

Anyone else fitted a different system to their bikes?

I have a Scorpion end can for my nc30 that has a removable baffle. The best part is when you remove the baffle the E-mark is still on the can Laughing

When I got it Mot'ed I asked the place if they wanted me to replace the baffle, they just said as long as it's got the E-mark they're not bothered.

So what's the deal then kev? I take it one with 'race use only' stamped on it won't go down to well at my local MOT station? Confused

Mine has 'Not for Road Use' Stamped on the underside where you cannot see it, wonder why they put it there Mr. Green . When your MOT comes, put the standard can back on Thumbs Up.

I need a new race can for my R6. I haven't researched it yet but definitely want one with a removable baffle, preferably not too dear (I'm bound to come off on a track day...). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well I called PDQ in Slough on 01753 730043, spoke to a woman there who seems to know everything about cans, prices and how to remove baffles etc....

Akrapovic came in at £420 in titanium, phoned around and managed to get it through Infinity for £395.....

I am sure there are probably cheaper places, just depends how much time you want to phone around...

Thanks. I'll need to go for something cheaper - Acrpovic is just tooooo good to drop on track isn't it! The main reason for removal (aside from the MOT thing) is to go to a track and put the baffle in if it's a restricted decibel day. I've had lots of mates turned away because of that.

Scorpions are supposed to be quite good and cheaper. They come in around £280 mark. Remus are around £350.

Micron are also good, 'Busters' are doing some real good deals on them at the mo, I got an oval s/s race can for £99. Obviously the removable baffling ones are slightly more but still cheap!

The decibel level will be assessed at the discretion of the tester, other checks are:

The exhaust mountings must be secure and not fouling any part of the rear suspension

The exhaust must not be holed and free from leaks from both joints and box(es)

Replacements units, other than bikes registered before 01.Jan.1985, must have the BSAU 193 stamp

Thanks. They look good and the prices aren't too bad either.

If you fit a legally marked exhaust then you don’t have to tell your insurance company, as you’re automatically covered – is that true?

Nope. Your insurance policy will state exactly what is, and is not, covered.

Generally, exclusions which allow the company NOT to pay a claim, usually include any changes or modifications to the bike, which the insured ( that’s you ) DID NOT tell the company about.

Most likely the insurer would pay out, assuming the bike was legal at the time of an accident, but it is not wise to allow the company the chance to refuse to meet the cost of a claim – that’s why you’re insured after all.

This is also true on non-legal can's, so take note.

This same rule also applies to accidents and convictions by the way. If you want to make sure you’re covered, be honest.

The only rule on them now is as long as it hasn't got "not for road use" or "race use only" it is fine as long is its not too loud, thats it so it doesn't have to have any markings on it at all.

So what about a "race only can" that is marked as such but with a dB killer baffle type thing and one of those bandings with the EU numbers on it. Is that all ok and legal?
