What is the reason you want to go for a supermoto and what sort of riding do you expect to be doing on it?

You do realise that they are significantly slower if not 'pushed' - they aren't for everyone.

Definitely test ride a few before making your decision to have this sort of bike.
I had the idea i would have this sort of style of bike as a second bike, but after road testing a DRZ400, XT600, XT660, DR600, i decided that i just couldn't live with the poor power and complete lack of wind protection.

A CCM may well suit you if yer only going for short blasts. Just because i never got on with these types of bikes doesn't mean you wont.

The 644 is a bit heavy/slow for my liking, however the engine should be pretty reliable and offers that traditional 'thumper' feel.

I often recommend the Husky 610 range as being a good mix of power, flexibility and gearing, however I've still not really investigated the pre 06 models too much.

Until it died, I quite liked my DRZ engined CCM404 - it offered a good mix of light weight, good suspension and enough power to be fun. It was pretty good on and off road and was easy to swap between the two.

The KTM LC4 range is worth considering too.

If you want serious performance as far as handling goes, the enduro based models, such as the KTM530, Husky 510 etc are pretty good, but the engine's require a lot of maintenance - the real light weight and top spec suspension means they are way, way ahead of anything most people are likely to use them for.

Do you intend to commute for more than 15 miles each way, do you have to use the motorway/A-roads for more than 5 times a year. If so don't get a supermoto of any description.

Theyre slow, you get soaked and blown about by the wind, it get's freezing. Even my little DRZ vibrates a fair bit, stuff like big KTM's shake your eyeballs. They require more maintanence than a sports bike, they use tyres and chains quicker.

Theyre great fun though!
