Being a regular on a forum gives quite an in interesting view into certain aspects of social dynamics.

The way most newbies go through a phase of posting anything and everything (indeed, some never lose the habit) in a vain attempt to get 'recognised'. The way old faces make the same points again and again, often at the most tenuous provocation and sometimes under the pretence of inside jokes. The internecine squabbles and wrangling that goes on across sub forums and threads with nomadic tribes of user names seen flocking to specific topics or posters.

It's great. It's like a virtual ant farm with the added bonus that many of the ants aren't even capable of instinctive behaviours, it makes them a damn sight more random and therefore interesting to observe Very Happy

I think it would interesting to compare it to a face to face forum. How would the people you've mentioned behave minus the safety buffer and anonymity of the internet.

It's easy to tell the ones who'd be much the same and pretty easy to tell those who'd not be quite so vociferous. However, the ones in the middle would be the wild cards...

The difference between RL and a forum is you don't have to speak over anyone on a forum to get your turn to say your piece. In RL that can be a proper bitch (and lead to serious confrontation). A forum is an orderly queue, even in a fight.

Most fun is when you meet people, and they look /nothing/ like you expect. Even remotely.

Or you meet one and find out they have an odd accent, and from then on you read all your posts in that way... and snigger.

Most established members have distinctive character but often form trends with several other members which means I mentally group them together. I always consider you and Bazza to be like twins.... twin ants if you will?

I just have no one else to talk to Crying or Very sad

...

Am I one of the ones "in the middle"? I talk seriously most of the time but I am a little insane. I'm quite serious about this biking malarkey too.

On a more serious note, when I went to the karting meet last year some people did indeed speak exactly as they do on here and some where also just as abnormal as you would expect (not going to name any names). It was quite orderly and very fun though.

When is the next national meet?

That's funny because you are the ones with accents.
Every time someone posts up a youtube video I can't understanding a fucking word of it.
I agree on the snigger comment though.

It is like our own little community or reality show.
One thing I've just realized is we seem to be down on numbers of homos.
Actually I started thinking about lesbians (as you do) and then thought, we don't have many of them on here.
Then of course the I kinda figured we're short on pillow biters too. (no offense intended cock munchers Smile )

What else are we missing ?

Oh and since I live in Aus the chances of meeting anyone off here is unlikely, so it's never really been a consideration for me tbh.

Ack, they just lack the confidence to speak. Bit of a difference.

True, but nothing in comparison to another site I post on (non bike).

There are a bunch or regulars who seriously into outwitting eachother and highlighting eachothers flaws. They all seem to be clones of eachother. Its quite strange.

I agree to an extent but there's still a lot of people out there who can't be bothered to try and fight for some speaking time and instead just listen.

I don't even listen anymore.
