Road Rash through Jacket?

Hi.

I was wondering if anyone knows how I got an abrasion type injury through my leather RST jacket with knox insert armour?

There are no holes anywhere and the stitching is intact, although the leather has been thinned by the road, if that makes any sense. I wouldn't be comfortable crashing in the jacket again incase it ripped through.

It has scabbed over and the scab is completely black. It's a very clean abrasion, although I still got it scrubbed by the nurses. I have been over the whole arm of the jacket multiple times and there is definately no holes. The jacket also did not roll up or anything.

This is in no way a negative to RST or knox in terms of their kit. I hit the ground pretty hard with scuffs on the back and front of the jacket also. It's just I was under the impression that as long as you were inside leather you could slide along the ground at whatever speed and not get any abrasions.

Oh yeah, RST kit is great. The jacket is the best £55 I've spent. I do realise that green mess could have been my arm so I don't care about the abrasion. I'm just more interested in how it happened through the leather.

had exactly the same thing in an expensive dainese textile job, doesnt even look like i crashed from the jacket, yet my arm was grazed / blood was leaking out etc.

i assumed it friction on the inside of the jacket, never really thought much else of it until now...

i have had the same thing every crash, don't know why, but you still get grazed up in a crash even in gear,
id say it'd be much worse with out it

^^^Good point. And was the rather lame reason why i've gone a bought a nice new tight fitting leather. I tend to wear long sleeve cotton underneath, but those wicking undersuits are made from manmade fibres wonder if they'd melt..... Still its nowt compared to proper skin skuffage.

If you hit the floor at 30 mph and you have lose leathers, the inside of the leathers will move at 30 mphs against your skin, and it does give you a burn.

Though soft fabric/armor rubbing against you knee at 30 mph is better than concreate at 30mph

I've had it following crashes but only on parts with armour on them. I think the normal clothing has a certain amount of slip between the outer and inner layers that the armoured parts do not.

Basically a cloth friction burn (always used to call it a carpet burn when I was younger). The best bit is picking all the small nylon fibres out of the scar for the next 12 months.

Yes, had similar, just put it down to friction burn...as leathers don't stop your limbs moving inside them.
