£4000 to spend what would you buy

1. sports bike
2. all other types of bike eg. naked, tourer etc.

no limit on how you spend the money.

eg. buy a 2 grand bike and spend 2 grand on mod, or buy something crash damaged and do it up. Or buy something for 4k.

you dont have to spend 4k, you can leave some money in the bank for servicing, tyres, crash repairs, insurance, etc.

just a quick sentence or two why you chose it as well.
eg.
yamaha r6 2000 - 2k on bike 2k on mods mainly cosmetic (custom paint job). I rarely go on motorways, and prefer the better handling over a litre. I would rather have something custom and older than something standard and newer.

If I was giving 4k for pure bike related things, I would not get a new bike, my CBR (which I haven't rode yet, cannot 'til May so I can use my 2 years NCB on a new policy for it) is sat in my garage waiting for me To sell it after all this waiting would be wrong, and I also beleive that by going from ped -> gs 500 -> 600f, I am not 'missing out' in developing my riding skills in the same way that someone going ped -> R6 -> R1 would.

Firstly, kit. I would spend £400 on a lid, probably Arai, because my RST one after a year and a bit is starting to be a bit minging inside. Sidi Vertigo black boots to replace my A-stars SMX's, £150-200. Pair of A stars winter gloves to go with my RST racing ones, £50. RST black leather trousers, £150, to match my jacket (I currently have Hein Gericke textile bottoms and jacket, but use my RST leather jacket I bought at the bike show with the bottoms now). That would be pretty much it in terms of gear. I rate RST very highly as a brand, everything I have owned from there has lasted well, looked great and felt decent. (except my lid, which was a lot more budget, could do with a new one anyway).

So that's 800 odd on kit.

Next, I would get Pazzo shorty levers in black with red adjuster, £100, mini indi's and a tail tidy, £50, a Yoshi full system with a stubby triangle carbon end can, £800?ish, decent rearsets, £300, wavey discs all round, £300ish, HID conversion, £100, a rear seat cowl, £50, a Carbon Hugger and chain guard, £200, crash bobbins in a few places, £100, and that would probably be it. Anyone got anything else to suggest I could do to a CBR600FY?

£1650ish on Mods, Wouldn't be huge amount but for the full system.

So that would leave me with roughly a grand and a half.

£500 would cover my insurance for a year.

£1000 left.

£500 set aside for tyres, petrol, any mec. problems that came up.

£500 left.

Tour with the £500 toward the south of France, see how far I got

id spend about 1-2k on a ccm supermoto (with the rotax engine) probly an R30 what ever was left of the 2k i would spend on the motor, new cams possibly big bore and carb,

the other 2k would be for
a bridgestone preferably the 350cc but there is only the 200 on ebay at the monet so i'd have that

and i'd consider that money well spent

Possibly get a Duke 999 with not much spare cash.

Other than that it would be some type of super moto and a oldish bike. Around £2k each.

I'd spend a few hundred tidying the CB500. Nothing wrong with it other than the paintwork is getting a bit tired, and the engine cases seems to have grown a white beard. I'd also put higher bars on it so I could sit more upright. Or swap it for a tidy, low mileage 2004* CG125.

Ask me next week, and I'll probably say I'd get a tidy XJ900F. Or maybe an XV535

* Or whenever it was they added the disk brake, but hadn't got rid of the kickstart yet.

If I didn't have the bikes I had now I would drop £4k on a newer TDM with ABS. As for sports bikes (I'm going to take that to mean fun bike) I'd go for a Supermoto CR500 or maybe a Daytona 650/675 if I could get one for £4k.

I'd spend £400 buying my old GSXR back from my friend, then another £1k on making it into a trackbike. Then I'd buy a trailer to go to tracks.

Then I'd buy either a Thunderace or ZX9R for the road. Probably a Thunderace this week.

I would look at mint part modded hornets on ebay, wait till the right one pops up for around 3 grand and offer can't say no cash, or just bid big, then use the grand for insurance fully comp.
