Anyway, get yourself over here: Adv Rider Ride reports, better than most books, interactive and you'll never run out as people are generally posting as quickly as you can read!

Think my parents went to that and they loved it too Thumbs Up

I haven't read Terra Circa (is there a book? can't see it on their website) but I have watched the DVD (along with the Mondo Enduro) I'd recommend them both, although I am not sure I'd pay £19 each for them, thankfully my Dad did! Laughing

Currently reading Lois on the Loose, very good read, informative and from the perspective of a novice when it comes to bike maintenance.

By Any Means was a damn good read...certainly makes you feel the need for a new adventure. I have also read the Long Way Round, which I feel was more descriptive and interesting and real than the dvd.

Why does everyone seem to dislike the long way round/down? ????

Yes it probably only happened because they're famous and have lots of money, and yes they had a big support group but who wouldn't if they /could/ ? They still rode bikes around the world, still had an adventure and I quite enjoyed the TV series, the book is on my Amazon wish list ... I reckon it's worth a read. Long Way Down TV series was a bit rubbish compared to the first one though, seemed to rush through it all which was a bit shit but I'll give the book a go anyway.

Some good suggestions here though, will add a few to the wish list Thumbs Up

Because it seems so fake and staged - I've become even more cynical since being involved in such a (though lower scale/budget) endeavour.

I agree with you to a degree, but whilst I don't 'dislike' the trips I find them harder to relate to as an average person. I find reading stuff on ADV Rider or here more relevant, as these folk have similar lives to me and therefore I can see where they are coming from with all the trials and tribulations and ultimate successes.

I think the high budget, highly publicised trips are great for ideas but the reality of planning and getting through borders is all very different when you're a 'little person' with no film crew and staff to organise it for you! Ultimately you not only have to be a good rider, mechanic and navigator, you also need to be $hit hot at admin and have the patience of a Saint!!

Oh, and if you have an active imagination the books are much better than the DVD's - really get you thinking!! Thumbs Up

If you really want some inspiration check out Horizons Unlimited (The HUBB) series of DVD`s about how to prepare and ride the world. These DVD`s are made by those who have actually done it.

Another adventure Book I can recomend ............. Mike Carters "uneasy rider" ........... it deffinately explains a lot about the average blokes mid-life crisis lol

Reading this guys book at the moment Paddy Tyson - The Hunt For Puerto Del Faglioli https://www.paddytyson.com/

Only part the way through , but it's a hoot. Having met the guy I can confirm his humour is as dry as he writes it.

+1 for Mondo Enduro!

Reading at it the moment after a recommendation from a friend. IMHO it takes a while to get into the editors style of writing, but i've just "got to" Magadan, and i cant put it down!

Don't expect an easy read, or loads of pictures, but its worth it form the mental pictures you build up!
