Just curious what other people do really.
I was at college last week and got a bit of grief from the 'ped boiz'. Basically because i wear all my gear even though i'm only on my wee 125, they're just saying i look like a bit of a tit and why do i wear all the gear, thinks he's a proper bike yada yada. To which i respond with the fact i've nearly passed my test so i do class myself as 'nearly' a proper biker considering i actually plan on sticking with bikes and not stealing them! (i do realise i may look like a bit of a tit especially because i'm around 6ft 4" Embarassed )

But i do have to argue that i do ride around 15 miles there and back and it is bloody cold in the mornings! Also as its NSL pretty much all the way, thats a near enough constant 60mph untill i get there and i dont fancy falling off and losing the skin off my legs just because some inbred chav thinks he knows best because he's got a peugeot speedfight Confused !

I can understand it in the summer, but even then i dont think i'd feel comfortable riding without all my gear now, i'll feel like i'm nekkid!

So do you wear all your gear the whole time? Do you get grief from these chavs? Thinking

If you stop long enough to listen to them, you'll have to put up with their shit. Honestly, who cares?

Do whatever you feel right and it's all sorted.

But to answer the other question, I do wear my gear most of the time, but there're exceptions. My daily commute wouldn't be one of those tho.

I don't have textile trousers, just always wear various pairs of jeans with some Dutch cammos over the top. Textile jacket, para boots, gloves. If I'm out for a blast I'll wear my protector but if I'm just nipping into town I don't bother.

Full gear everytime. Even if I just nip out I end up doing a fairly moderate speed; have become quite fond of my skin over the years and would quite like to keep it should the worst happen.

Peds are gay

Ped boys are even gayer

i wear all my gear when i know im going to be riding like a complete knob.

slight knobbish riding leaves out the boots and leather trousers.

I wear all my gear when i know ill be going 50+.

When going to uni/town i just wear a textile jacket, jeans and trainers.

Probably a stupid way of looking at it cause i know damage can be done at 30mph, but dont like walking around and sitting in lectures with boots and trousers on.

If going on a ride out, or long journey i wear all my gear too.

The thing is...

As soon as you think 'yeah, they're right, I feel like a tit' you'll come off, its sods law. I don't wear all my gear all of the time, if I come off and hurt myself it'll be because I took the decision myself not to wear the troos, not because the chavs thought I looked like a tit.

I use a pair of Streetmate waterproof trousers. They're not padded but are heavily lined so offer decent wind protection and are waterproof. Crucially they are easy to put on and take off so it's not a huge hassle to get ready to go out.

Beyond that? Wear what you feel comfortable with, don't even listen folk on here, they're your legs and elbows.

Thumbs Up

Only people (I use the term loosely) with no brain/imagination would sneer at someone wearing gear (ie, no idea of how much it's going to hurt), even if they don't choose to do it themselves.

Also, I'm assuming they're all 16 and so going to live forever. Sadly, at least one or two will prove that wrong over the next year.

6' 4" is also the best height in the world and no-one of that height looks like a tit. Ever. I may be biased Wink

I wear my gear all the time . Hein Gericke two piece , you just get used to it in the end.

The idea of only wearing my gear when I ride fast is a no-go for me . All the car drivers are still gonna drive like pricks , they don't care if your wearing full gear or T shirt and flip-flops .

But at the end of the day it's YOUR choice , don't let the gay-ped boys influence your decision .

If you feel you need to justify yourself to pedbois about this kind of thing you actually need the extra skin because your own isn't thick enough.

Don't lower yourself to responding to their taunts.

Ped Boiz do not have the right to have an opinion. Just tell them that you have two gold blobs.

They'll look more of a tit when they're crying and need skin grafts after showing off to some chavettes.

But i do have to argue

Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level then win on experience. (chavs do fall into this category).

I wear gear pretty much all the time, occasionally do away with trousers and wear jeans..

Ironically the most injury free I've been was in jeans, but I had a leather jacket, gloves and boots on and rolled quite well.

It wasn't so much that i care what they think of me, like many of you have said, its my skin and i would like to keep it from sticking to the tarmac as much as possible Wink

I was only interested in how other people ride, 125+ as i dont really know anyone in that category if ya like. its good to know that alot of people are the same and wear their gear most of the time despite what anyone else thinks.

Although if i were to tell them that, they may not fully understand (not that they understand much anyway) And may think its some kind of euphonism Laughing

I think the best way, is wear gear to work/school whatever, then take it off when there and hang it up or put it in a bag or whatever.

I always wear my gear wether its leathers or textiles, like you say its your skin and it hurts when its been shaved off by the tarmac. Crying or Very sad

When they ask why you wear it ask them why they ride peds and not a real bike. Laughing

Cheers

Jon.
