Full licence and CBT limitations

My wife wouldn't mind using a moped.
I can't remember what's what with bike sizes and CBT

If she has a full car licence does she need a cbt
If she has a cbt can she use a 125cc?
Can she then ride a 125 for ever without taking a test?

For a 125 she would need to regularly retake her CBT to keep riding on L plates.

If she has had a full car licence since before some date (forgotten when, but around 1999 I think) then she would have got a full moped licence with it. In which case she can ride a moped without L plates or CBT.

she got her licence in 1991
What do we need to look for on the licence?

Basically want a 125cc vespa or something for her?
Would the licence cover a 125? if it were before the ?? date

Nope. She will have a full moped licence (ie, under 50cc and under 30mph), but nothing other than a normal 125cc provisional licence which needs a current CBT to be valid (and the CBT only lasts 2 years).

Thanks, for the info. That's a bugger as i would have used a 125 for work. Wouldn't want a 50cc though? maybe i ought to try one just to see if they're any good nowadays?

Restricted they are not that good.

Full power they can be OK (I have a half size 50 that I ride out of choice sometimes, but it does just short of a real 50mph), but then they are not legally mopeds.

Having said all that, if she has no experience of a bike then a CBT would be well worthwhile anyway. And then get a years practice and a few lessons for the test.
