Can you fit used restrictor kits to your bike? Will they restrict as well as they do new?

I'm loking for an older bandit or SV650 so im guessing it'll either be carb or air intake washers. Doubt i'll get a fuel injected one so I don't think it will be CDI.

Yes you can re-use inlet washers.

If you can't find any at a reasonable price, just get the dimensions, then get some made up. My gpz wahsers cost me 2 cans of Dr Pepper. Thumbs Up

Hi

No legal requirement for proof that the bike is under 25kW / 33hp.

All the best

Really? I was under the impression that the paperwork was the most important part, mind you saying that... my insurance company never asked for my certificate. What's the point in going through the FI? Is it a case of proving on a Dyno reading the 33bhp?... sure there has already been a thread (or several) on this - sorry Embarassed

You don't need to prove anything. By law it has to be restricted to 33bhp.

Then the police have to prove that it isn't.

The certificate means that it was, restricted at the date on the paper. It has no legal influence what so ever.

FI is a complete scam, The word their sales pitch as if you need THEIR kit for it to be legal. Bit in reality its just the face its restricted. Through either inlet, throttle, exhaust or any other place....

Thumbs Up

Hi

The legislation just says net power of under 25kW, nothing about proof. FI seem to try and make it look like the paperwork is the important bit, but when pressed they have now admitted it is pretty just a receipt.

All the best

This is certainly a grey area, that is not explained very well at all. There should be more information available (and taught at test stage) regarding the legalities!

No offence to Kate T, but Keith do you ever get bored of saying the same thing hundreds of times a week? Laughing

Hi

A bit, but not really surprising it needs repeating given how many people have been mislead by those trying to sell them things.

All the best

I realized that I was probably asking questions that have been answered many times before. Now I know, next time it crops up I'll be able to help and give Kickstart a break from repeating his self!

I guess it's a good thing it constantly gets repeated on here, because it not only informs yourself, but also any potential newbie who thinks they need to give FI their money.

"a friend" didn't have a restriction certificate or their bike ever restricted. I know some people like to pay for the FI kit then take the washers out, but that's just a waste of money imo.

I never made up one of those fake restriction certs. There's a number on there to let the person phone and double check. If the police wanted to know if my bike was restricted then I was willing to call their bluff on whether or not they'd put it on a dyno.

The only way that I've heard people getting caught is either admitting it's not restricted or crashing their bike.

I think you're talking 6 points if you're caught.

For those possibly unsure (or just interested), i've previously wrote an in-depth piece about 33BHP because i was pretty fed up with the confusion over the situation:
https://blackmotorcycle.webs.com

The upshot of it for those who don't bother to read the link, is +1 to what Kickstart said.

Hi

By the way, someone I know who runs a dyno shop and who also has the engineering skills and equipment to make up parts to restrict a bike says he just buys the restrictors. While he could make them, by the time he has had the bike on and off the dyno several times and made / modified the bits several times in cost you may as well just have bought the kit.

All the best

Keith
