On a dual carriageway with a central reservation, 40limit, theres a camera mounted on the verge on the opposite side of the road, yet it double flashed both me and the car infront with no traffic on opposite side. From what I've found on the net they say Gatsos can't record u travelling towards them and they only work in one direction.

If this is true, why did it go off at all, it's the first camera I've passed on opposite side of a road, let alone the fact it was a dual carriageway so 3 lanes away thats gone off.

Hi

Think they do work against oncoming traffic but are not homologated for this in the UK so the pictures cannot be used as evidence. Just a little bit of terrorism on the part of those running the scameras.

All the best

Keith

There was a big article in MCN about 6-7 months ago showing all the different types of cameras. There was one that only took your pic from the front but it wasn't a standard gatso, so I'm guessing they can get you this way.

It's the Truvelo that can take pics from the front.

I believe no speed-detection equipment is allowed to take a reading accross a lane with traffic in the opposing dirction.

Thus the system has to either be in the central reservation or on the left of the road you are on to take a legal reading.

Ahhh speed cameras! Have'nt had to worry about the f*ckers for the last week as been up in North Wales and did'nt see even one the whole time I was there. Down here in Dorset they seem to have one for about every road now Crying or Very sad

Anyway, back to the topic, I've also heard that urban legend that they can't snap you oncoming. Having said that, on the way back on the M4 this afternoon there was a copper on a motorway bridge catching people coming towards him below with one of those hand held radar detector thingies. Fortunately I was sticking to the 50 mph limit but there were people tear-arsing past me so I would'nt like to be them in two weeks time when they get their fine through the post Razz

The M4 ones are a regular event, especially by the Severn crossing and Cardiff areas. I'm always careful when I go there as I see them so often.
