unless you are confident to carry it in its case across your back this is the only way to do it as it will be too long to strap across the bike just make sure that it doesn't foul the steering or your ability to use any of the controls

Don't do what I did:

Stuff the rifle down your jacket, with the barrel stuck out of the top, covered in a bin bag. The bin bag WILL rip off, leaving you with a very real looking rifle barrel sticking out of the top of your jacket, above your head, with a busy high street watching Laughing

definitely this, though I'd try to make sure it doesn't poke out to the rear too much as some dozy twat is bound to drive into it in traffic.

Take the action out of the stock and put it in a ruck sack.

i was a member of an air-gun club in west London..... a couple of the members there, only had motorbikes as transport.
if they took thier guns to the range in a gun shaped cover on their back they nearly always got stopped, even though they had not broken any laws or intended to.

both of them used to break thier guns down to stop them looking like guns.

the law says if you are going to transport an air-weapon in public, you must use a securely fastened case, and you must have a valid reason for doing so.
my advice is that you have some phone numbers on you, so that if you are stopped, you can give the numbers to the police in order that they may call whoever to substansiate your story/reason for having the gun in public.
our experiance is that they WILL assume you are guilty of something and confiscate the gun until you can prove that you are innocent, not the other way round.
