I had the faired version, the rsvr 1000, and it was the best bike i've ever ridden. Not exactly an easy bike to live with day to day though and i suspect the tuono will be the same.

They are slightly more comfy because of the higher bars, although I always found my RSV to be pretty comfy anyway. Thumbs Up

What about a 955 speed triple? Cracking bikes by all accounts.

Right I can't take it anymore - that is neither unfared, a v-twin or 'around the litre class', please collect your coat and leave...

I can't really give much valid opinion here (not really my type of bike), but if I were in the market for that sort of thing I would be looking at saving a few bob more and either going for a monster S4R or KTM Supermoto (both around the £5k mark)

KTM Supermoto 950R - Admittedly this is it in 'R' spec but it looks like a proper hooligan tool
https://www.tradebikesuk.co.uk/content/images/12142871323.jpg

Ducati S4R - I spaff every time I see that single sided swingarm and shotgun exhaust combo (only in the blue and white though - so thankfully this isn't too often)

Pah, people get hung up on silly things generally like 'I want a 600cc bike', ignoring that this covers a massively vast range of vehicles.
Generally suggests they haven't really thought out what they want from a bike that much Smile.

So I'll suggest a GSXR1000 with a rev-restrictor and wide bars Wink.

595 is a 955cc engine, so as close as to being a litre I'd say.

You dont say what the bike will be used for. Bonneville 900 fits in to that class. Guzzi also to the Breva in 750 and 1200 which may be down to your price range now, much more a touring bike than a sports though.

SV1000 came in half faired and naked versions.

Virago 1000 also fits in, yet is a very different bike to a the Ducati first mentioned - a speed triple is a lot closer, even the 595 is I'd say.

The two choices I had when I bought my Buell were The Buell XB12S lightning (which I bought) and the KTM superduke 990.

The KTM is a good bike, sharp handling, sharp brakes and immensely sharp throttle response. Loads of power, but for me it was just too hard to ride. The throttle was good when going fast, but it made it extremely hard to ride under about 50mph. It makes you ride like you're an L plater even if you've got quite a bit of experience and a relatively deft throttle hand.

The Buell is an event. Its loud, brash and torquey. Its also comfortable, and very easy to ride slowly. The clutch is heavy but its easy to balance at walking pace due to the heavy flywheel. Its just that few degrees softer than the KTM (and a few CM lower in the seat).

To my mind, the Ducati isn't really an option due to the reach to the bars, and there aren't really many other options.

Haha, my mistake - however it's still a faired triple.

And aye I would tend to agree that it does seem like a somewhat limiting exercise to say my new bike must be X, or be size Y but then again if we were all being truthful with ourselves about what we would need we'd prob all have CBF1000/600's or something equally as 'boring'. My mate got it into his head that he NEEDED something over 1000cc (regardless of power output/weight) and despite my attempts to get him to try a few smaller things nothing else would do and he's now had a Bandit 1200s and CB1300. He seems enough happy though

Good idea is to stick in £2-3k and 925+cc (if that's what really matters) in the search on autotrader and just go through the manufacturers one by one and wee what tickles your fancy.

Not sure if the bike is for fun or practicality or a posing tool, but if practicality is important i can thoroughly reccomend the ER6n and f.
Its not a thou, no, but it accelerates to 60 almost as quick as a litre twin, sounds ok, and is much easier to handle and live with day to day.

I just bought one, 08 plate with 2k on clocks for a smidge over 3k and cant fault it one bit as a everyday bike.It doesn't have the same impact and sex appeal that my rsvr had on the roads, but other than that its a great bike i think. Thumbs Up
Actually i retract one of those comments. It does look quite sexy and has turned a few heads already Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the input, some options there that i had not thought about, the bike is just for fun, no chance of me using it for work due to the nature of my job, i already have a fireblade which i have turned into a track day tool, its still road legal, but i want something different to a inline 4 missle, something i can enjoy on the road at non silly speeds, i think maybe i would consider a small cc bike but i am kinda stuck in my litre ways Smile

They get to silly speeds even quicker than an IL4 does and are hard to ride slowly.Unless you're constantly going over 50 mph theyre quite unpleasant to ride. Not smooth at all, and very heavy/clumsy.

Many on here say that a smaller cc bike would be more fun for road riding, and as i now have something a touch less powerful than my litre twin and my other 600 il4 supersports, i would have to agree with them.
Buying something purely because its a thou kind of says you have something to prove mate and are more concerned with statistics and figures than you are about the fun factor, or practicality, of a bike. Wink
Getting a twin is a good choice if you've already got an il4, but you dont need a thou for fun.Go and test ride a few smaller twins and you'll see what i mean.

Oh I'm not so sure about all of that, I swapped my sports bikes for a 944cc air cooled monster a few years back to keep the speeds down a bit and it did work, I found around 85 to be a very comfortable speed and it didn't need to slow down much for the corners. It was perfectly happy at lower speeds too, and the 992cc dual spark engine in the monster thou / S2R thou is a fairly smooth engine good at low speeds too. My problem was that it had so much torque I just couldn't resist lifting the front wheel off the throttle away from traffic lights, which is probably worse than speeding. I'm on a multistrada now, which isn't much to look at but is the best road bike I've ever had . . .

I do not agree with that at all. I changed my GXSR 1000 for a Tuono; the GSXR was quicker to get to silly speeds than the Tuono (although not a huge amount in it).

The Tuono is very easy to ride at slow, town, speeds and I find it is more fun on urban roads than the GSXR. I have dropped a tooth on the front and put it on map 2. Its very easy to ride slowly even with a pillion, it is smooth as long as you get the right gear. The wide bars and upright position make it more comfortable than the GSXR in town, you can see more and it is easier to filter.

It is also not heavy or clumsy, I am not sure where you get that from, it's very well balanced and definitely not unpleasant to ride.

I also agree with Zimbo, my 'high' speed riding has changed significantly. On a faired bike it was very easy to sit at well over 100mph for long periods, on the Tuono I am happy to cruise along at 80 - 90mph. Still speeding but, I am not going to immediately going to lose my licence.

You'd get a low mileage BT1100 for under £3000

Really depends on the state of tune. My Futura was an absolute pussycat even at walking pace whereas the SP1 took a ton of fiddling just to make it ridable at 30mph. Both 1000cc twins with ~20bhp between them.

Personally I'd be leaning towards a Falco as a day to day bike, a little bit more easy going and practical than a Tuono but doesn't suffer the awful tank range of the firestorm Thumbs Up

A moto Guzzi Griso.

Not saying they're any good mind but it is definately a litre+, unfaired, sporty V-twin. They are also very pretty.
