What is going on with nature?!

This weekend has been insane!

Firstly, on Friday I was travelling to London at 7am on the A21, trundling along at 55MPH when suddenly - BAM - a wood pigeon flies across the road and I head-butt it full on. Has this happened to many people on here before? It really hurt!!! Luckily there was no input to my steering or balance at all but I'm pretty certain I gained some mild whiplash. When I stopped to have a look there where feathers suck in my helmet I'm pretty sure the poor bird is dead.

On the way back from London, this time at 50MPH on the A225, the damn pigeons tried it again! This time I reacted really quickly and I had ducked out of the way before I knew what was happening or a repeat would have happened for sure.

Finally, on the way home tonight, barely one hour ago, a fox chanced it across a main road and if I hadn't of braked very sharply not only would I have taken another life but I'm fairly certain it would have upset my front wheel enough to give me the joy of a second highside since I started riding a motorbike. Damn things must not be very good at judging distances!

It really does feel like the animals are out to get me I'm kind of paranoid that the badgers will be out in force the next time I attempt a twisty country road. Can anyone help dismiss my new found fears as irrational for me?

This thread has made me and the gf laugh so much It reminded me of a similar experience, i was heading over to work and nearly got taken out by a pheasant, couldn't believe it at the time You should have followed it and finished it off, supposed to be quite tasty

Pigeons have sex on their minds, so won't be fully aware, either that or you have girly hair protruding from your helmet and they mistook it for nesting material.

Never hit a bird myself (come pretty close though) but did have a rabbit run between my wheels last spring on an early morning ride..

Ha ha ha...isn't it funny when the new riders experience this sort of thing for the first time...!!?! Unfortunately, yes...I have had the pleasure of ducking and diving on the bike due to pigeons, I have also run over a rat. My mate got whacked in the chest by a seagull as he was going round a bend...pretty monumental...and managed by some miracle to stay on.

The stories go on and on...one time I went over the brow of a hill and a deer laid across the road in front of me, luckily I was on a dual carriageway, and was able to hop lanes pretty quickly and avoid it.

No flying animals but I near missed a dog at 60mph down some back roads once. Came running out of some thick hedges straight across my path, I didn't even have time to brake, it was one of those, "oh shiiiiiiiiit" moments. I missed it by inches I'm sure, then stopped and it was wondering around in the field next to me. There was a farm close by, so I went down to check if it was theirs. The bloke said it belonged to another farm a few miles away and it was always doing it.

Count yourself lucky, was watching Traffic Cops and a pheasant flew straight through someones visor. He ended up in hospital with a smashed up nose and bike ended up smashed in a ditch!

Never hit an animal with the bike but i did run over a dog in the car .
the stupid dog ran out of a front garden, and i did`nt even have time to take my foot off the accelorater , let alone brake!!! very sad .

i did get hit square in the chest by a flying trainer when i was on a dual carriageway doing 70mph.
the car in front flicked it up from it`s back wheel.
i ended up on the pillion seat still holding on to the handlebars with a terrible pain in my chest and all the wind knocked out of me!!.
i managed to stay upright and go down the slip road.
when i got home i had a shoe shaped mark on my chest that turned into a shoe shaped bruise

I've hit a pheasant on the A21 just past the junction at Flimwell on the way back in.

Was doing ~45-50mph and it hit my chest, hurt like fuck, feathers everywhere - in my jacket/helmet/on the bike etc.

Poor little fucker didnt survive as I had to stop to get my breath back.

Not a good experience, I've hit the odd bunny thats already been hit on the road, it's not really upset the bike too much, generally just let it sort its self out.

Would be very arse twitchy of hitting something bigger though - badgers and foxes do worry me as nature is random and to a degree outside of your control.

Not a bike story but involves pheasants...years ago when I had to catch the bus to goto my birds house, in the summer, was on the bus coming through this little village, bus door was open. I was the only one on it bar the driver and a fucking pheasant flew into the front of the bus and starts going ape shit trying to get out but flapping it's wings everywhere. I had to tackle the beast down with my jacket and get it off the bus.

I pretty much pissed myself in terror, and my instructor did his best to deafen me with laughter across the radio...

I sped up to hit pigeons in the middle of the road last year. One flew away, the other .. um .. I'm not overly sure!

On an unrelated note; I found some random feathers stuck around the header pipes/oil cooler/in the under-tray, anyone know where on earth they'd have come from!?
