Hi folks

I have 2 bikes both on separate policies, 1 bike is renewing at the end of the month and the other renews in May. I thought I would add the bike which is renewing this month to the other bike policy no probs there and then add the 1 years no claims to the policy at the May renewal point and was told in no uncertain terms that this wasn't possible. So they are saying that even though I havn't made any claims they won't add this years no claims to the existing policy. But surely I have earnt this and they would have to take it into account?

Any thoughts

Hi Folks

Just an update, took a ride upto my local motorbike ins brokers and they confirmed because it was earned in the same year as my other policy the insurance firm won't accept it as an earned no claims. Me thinks there very happy to take your premiums but give you fuck all in return.

Typical insurance company chicanery.

I just had an isnurance company renew my insurance without asking. It's in their T&C;s that they'll renew if you don't tell them otherwise. I didn't get in touch before the renewal date but did get in touch within seven days afterwards.

Heres a tip, distance selling rules apply to insurance renewals, if you get caught out with this, even although the insurance company will try and insinuate their T&C's supercede UK law: obviously they don't.

You can cancel the policy with no penalty (which is where the insurance company thinks their T&C's reign supreme) within 7 days by writing.

Thumbs Up

well, not really. It's how it is, it's how it's always been and that's the end of it. Have to run a full year to get a full year's NCD, not 8 months and then make the rest up later. Chincanery or just plain this is how it is, your choice.

Going by what the OP said, he's not expecting 1 years NCB now, but from when the other policy runs out in May.

Unless I'm misreading it.

Also, I think I've said this before; using the phrase 'its just the way it is' or 'I'm only doing my job'. They excuse nothing!! Both are just crap excuses used to justify a panopoly of shit things that vary in severity from some insurance monkey engaging in a spot of legalised chicanery of some thug of a policeman shooting an innocent man 'because he looked a bit swarthy...'

It might be the end of it for you, but it sure as shit isn't the bloody end of it for me. That people let them get away with it bothers me more than there doing it in the first place.

Thumbs Up

Hi

Can't really see why anyone should be able to add 2 years no claims earnt during the same year together. Otherwise every 16 year old would insure 6 imaginary mopeds for a year and then use it for full car no claims the next year.

All the best

Keith

Right

1) You can't add a year's NCD to a contract that you incept 3 months prior to the NCD becoming available. That's a clear rule, the way it is, and has been prior to both policies incepting so nothing's changed, no rug's been pulled out. Which leads it onto...
2) Just because the rule doesn't suit doesn't mean it doesn't apply. So "it's the way it is" is actually a very valid reason and that is, indeed, the end of it. So what, break the whole insurance NCB structure because it doesn't suit certain circcumstances for certain people? Why? Why would a business want to do that to prejudice the position of an annual contract that's 3/4 the way through it's swing?

Sorry fella, I'd agree if it were that something that it seemed the rug had been pulled out but this is a case of not understanding the rules and circumstances from the outset and then throwing toys out of pram.

Don't think that's what he wants to do.

He has a policy up in March, and rather than renewing he wants to add that bike to his other policy which expires in May. Then when he renews in May we wants 1 years no claims from that policy plus a 2nd years no claims from the policy that expired in March.

All the best

Hi Kickstart

I have two policies running at the mo, on two different bikes.

One is due at the end of the month, I have earnt 1 years no claims on this policy.

The other policy already has 1 years no claims and will be 2 years no claims in may on another bike.

I hope that clarifies my position, i'm not asking for miracles but would like to add this odd 1 years no claims to my existing policy in May. The insurance company has said not possible due to running along side?? Just seems their being difficult over something which to me is quite logical and right. I'm not trying to buck or manipulate the insurance system. I've earnt the no claims.

Hi

Yes you have earnt it, but seperatly. It is perfectly normal that you cannot add the no claims from 2 seperate policies together. It isn't something that I can see a particular reason for them not to do it. You haven't been claim free on that policy for 3 years.

All the best

Hi Keith

I didn't know that you couldn't add em up, generally look at the insurance thing once a year and don't care about their petty rules and regulations, just thought as I had eant em why not lump em together in one policy. Makes sense to me. especially as was on two different vehicles.

You can't normally accumulate no-claims from two policies running at the same time. If you have 2 policies with different amounts of no claims then you have exactly that - 2 entirely different sets of insurance. The NCB has to be earned consecutively not concurrently.

Same as said above. I could have 3 moped v5's insured for 50 quid each, each one accumulating a years no claims and then wrap them all together and hey presto 3 years NCB in one year! Not going to happen is it?

I dont often side with insurance companies because they are a bunch of shit eating vampires but unfortunately its you who's trying to pull their pants down in this case, not them swindling you Im afraid!! Laughing

Hi

As said, it is pretty normal for insurance, not anything unusual hidden in the T&Cs. No reason they should give you any no claims bonus if they don't want to (until the mid 1990s the biggest bike insurer by a massive margin was Norwich Union and they never gave any no claims bonus at all).

All theb est

Its just a figure of speech, I didnt mean you were honestly trying it on. We just go on about them being arseholes but sometimes they are only playing by the (admittedly their own) rules.

"Right."

Basically what kickstart said. I also know you can't run two policies side by side then ask for 2 years NCD in year two. In truth I didn't think about that specifically, just that it seemed unfair that he couldn't take the 1 years NCD and use it this coming May (even although he'd have 1 years NCD assuming he hasn't claimed on that policy.

Also, I stand by what I said. Just because something is in a contract and legal, doesn't make it fair and occassionally, no hold on, very often it's not legal (although not in this case) so should be challenged.

Of course if you think it always has been/always will be that way or they're just doing their job then carry on.

Wink

my wife had 2 years on her cg and 1 year on her zx6r.

the cg insurance expired and we didnt renew due to it being sold so when the zx6r was fue for renewal we asked if we could use the 2 years from the cg instead of just the 1 year earned on the zx6r.

they actually took the 2 years from the cg and added it to the 1 year from the zx6r giving her 3 years on renewal.

I actually didnt think they could do this so while i was on the phone kept asking if this was ok and that she had 3 years etc etc. i even phoned them when the paperwork came through just to make sure.

this was a year ago and her renewal has just come through showing 4 years so i guess it was all good.

Maybe try another company as they may be able to do it.
