I have my eye on a Yoshimura stainless steel slip on.

Recently I asked about illegal dark visors and got many replies.

So what happens if I fit one for road use - Will I get pulled up every five minutes.

I've never been pulled for having a non road legal can. The police have also never said anything about me having a race can when I've been pulled over for other reasons.

Basically I think most police turn a blind eye to them, but if you get caught dong something else, they may try to do you for the can as well.

some peeps are tarts and just go for noise

I prefer stealth and power

mine is probably not much louder than the stock system, just a bit deeper sounding

Generally you will not get pulled for a race can. It is illegal, and if you get stopped for something else you can get done for it, but I believe it is only a £30 fine (I am not certain on this, perhaps someone else will be able to give a more certain answer). You will not pass an MOT with it fitted, and it does technically invalidate your insurance, but I don't know of anyone who has had problems with this yet. Confused

I have never been stopped for the race can, and I have been stopped by police and they didn't even mention the exhaust (although they were just doing general stopping people I think). It is illegal so be aware of that and if it's way too loud and is taking the piss a bit too much then you will find yourself getting to know your local traffic police very well Laughing

You can buy cans which are changable from road can to race can and back again by simply undoing an allen bolt which holds a slip in bit of baffle in the exhaust. These have all the legal marking on them, and means you can carry the baffle bits around with you so if you get police troubles you can put them back in which might well help the situation.

So, no you won't get pulled every five minutes in my experience. But you need to be aware that you can be pulled up and fined for it.

Yoshimura don't make any road legal cans so it would be a bit of a giveaway to someone in the know.

I am not expecting power gains from a slip on, its just my standard can is getting a bit corroded on the ends and I like the look of the Yoshimura cans.

Having never heard an R1 with a Yoshi slip on I don't know whether its a tarts can or something that would suit my poser image.

Do you know how noisy it is?

Stealth and power ultimately has its place and you obviously have the dogs genitalia for a bike but I have an R1 for better or worse.

Mine's quite loud and I've never had any hassle, even commuting through London, stopping next to plod in the petrol station and so on.

I'm considerate, I keep the revs down when it's late and I'm going past houses (or into my garage which amplifies everything) but meh, it sounds lovely and makes me happy.

I reckon if you don't ride like a dick or have something else that makes them pull you first (like a little plate) then you won't have any trouble.

I have said it once and I will say it again if it hasn't got "race use only" or "not for road use" on it you are legal.

I guess if they suspect you've tampered with it they'd politely refuse to MOT it.

there was a little metal plate with "race use only" rivetted on but 10 seconds with metal polish removed the words

The MOT tester doesn't have to pass it if they consider the bike to be too loud and if the not for road use bit has been scrubbed off they cannot fail it for that.
