I've got a pc with 2 HDD's and a different version of windows on each HDD. Windows XP on one, Windows7 on the other.
Windows7 has only recently been installed on a new 500GB SATA HDD and has been working fine. However recently shortly after starting it up it slows down and then freezes. When I reboot the pc, it just comes up with a disc read error.
So I restart it and in the bios select the Windows XP HDD, this initially begins to load up but then just stops on a blank black screen and doesn't go any further. No attempt at any restarts on either drive will work, however if I leave it for a few hours it'll start up again fine on either drive before repeating the freezing etc again.
I've run chkdsk on the Windows7 HDD and no errors show up.
So I'm thinking the processor/motherboard are perhaps doomed, but before having to splash out on a new motherboard I thought I'd ask the BCF knowledge collective!

Overheating possibly.
Check your temps with Coretemp or speedfan.

Haha, I just checked with speedfan and I've been folding for the past couple of hours with my CPU fan disconnected. Accidently tugged the lead on the fan controller.
Temps were still a cool 49ÂșC ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

what Sond said
If you dont get anywhere with that then download this
https://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
and run a cpu burn in test, this will negate any windows problems and prove if it is in fact hardware related.
Boot from the cd or usb key and just choose what you want to do, stay away from the file system tools for now
