How did everybody get so brainwashed by FI International? we have been ringing around trying to get a bike restricted and from many different places have been told the following :-

"I'm not authorised to restrict a bike"

"It's illegal to ride without an FI international restriction kit"

"The insurance company wont accept anything if its not from FI international"

"I could make your bike have a top speed of 50mph on our dyno but it still wouldnt be legal"

And so on!

I mean W T Jesus Tittyfucking Christ F, the law states that you must not ride anything with power exceeding 33bhp at the rear wheel, nothing about this company that want to charge £250 for 4 bloody washers that i could make myself in about 10 minutes if i knew the sizes! Has anyone else had similar problems? or are all of you restricted peeps fully FI'd up to the nines? Could someone please tell me im right, when you hear it from so many bike dealers and dyno centres you do start to wonder!

Oh and before anyone comes along and says "Just ride without them, you will never get caught" etc This or GTFO!

Cheers!

or just make your own.
This thread is now about restrictor sizes...

Gsxr 600 srad 1997-2000 (and probably the same all the way up to 2003)

outer diameter 40mm inner diameter 13mm. There is a hole drilled betweeen the id and od that is 3mm. No carb restriction, just disks

I'll make you up a set on a lathe for £30. Applies to any of the other posted restrictors.

Good call matt, i reckon the less money made by the FI monopoly the better, the bike is a GSXR400 GK76A model, i just cant believe how the dealers seem to think that its illegal any other way, It would be 2 hours labour tops on a dyno to restrict it without the FI kit bollocks but most dont seem to want to touch it!

Hi

In the UK it can be restricted any way you like, as long as its nett power output is below 25kW. That won't be the case everywhere (ie, thing the FI kits come from Germany where they will need to be TUV approved, which will add to the costs but which is irrelevant to the UK).

To an extent I can't blame the dealers for wanting an easy to lob on kit. Sure they could play around with a dyno and keep making up disks until they get it right, stripping the carbs off between each run, but by the time they have done this is is probably cheaper on a one off to just get the FI kit.

All the best

Keith

I see what you are saying there Keith but surely it would be worth it once they had done a few different makes of bike and could offer their own 'off the shelf' kits for say £50 or £100 fitted, They would definately get plenty of work once word spread!

CB500s.

42mm O/D. 19mm I/D. INCREASE main jets from 122 to 125. (yes, increase, don't ask me why).

It's not just FI international though. Honda do restricted inlet rubbers for the CB500, never been able to find the part number though.

It is if they get repeat business for the same model of bike. But the chances are that any small dyno shop isn't going to see much repeat business for the same model. Only way to do it would be to spend a load of money building up a decent range and then start selling them. Making the washers is a doddle, fitting them is a doddle, getting a design that works is the time consuming bit and a cost that doesn't change if you make 1 kit or 1000 kits.

Many of the more modern bikes are fairly well catered for by the OE makers having restrictor kits.

All the best

Keith

four washers? i've seen worse!

ZZR250, one washer glued to one of the two intake tubes in the airbox to make it smaller

dominator NX650, small bracket and one screw attached to the side of the carb stopping the throttle cable arm going to its full extent,

both these were from FI international, who don't make them, they import them from germany.

and I heard they were talking to their legal advisors about the feature in MCN

Yes, i had exactly the same issue and found it all so annoying and silly that i went as far as producing an (admittedly templated - i wanted the info out there, not a fancy display) website for it. See my signature for the link, and feel my anger Razz

And Stinkwheel, you (and others, i'll update the website) may find this useful -

CB500 restrictors as bought from Essex Honda in November 2008.

Stock code / Description / Price (Ex VAT)
16221MY5710 / INSULATOR, CARB LH / £8.33
16211MY5710 / INSULATOR, CARB RH / £8.33
99101GHB1250 / JET, #125 / £5.63 (Note: 2 were required, total: £11.26)
£5.08 postage.
Total £33.00 (Incl VAT).

Thinking about it, if people were to give me sizes, I could get them lasered for not a great deal of money.

I'll have a word at work and see if it would be worth it. I know they charge a minimum of £60, but if we were getting bits done I'm sure it wouldn't be a great deal, and they'd be spot on, as good as the ones you'd get from an official source.

Its mainly the new bikers and those who know little about restriction that end up getting brainwashed, and FI is taking full advantage of everyones lack of knowledge.

If you read around a bit, and after you have had a bike for a while you realise FI are just a bunch of money grabbing c**ts who are preying on new bikers unaware of the law.

superretard wrote:

And that thread you posted is not about the rider riding around unrestricted, as his restriction was over.

The rider in that thread stated to the police the bike was 100hp. If you get pulled and say yourself you are restricted if they ask, they are very unlikely to sieze the bike.

Otherwise they would end up seizing every single bike on the road held by a 33BHP licence holder.

Hi

Presume that it is because on a CV carb the slide will open depending on the air flow, and without much flow it will barely open. So the hole is offset towards the bottom where the slide won't be covering it so much.

All the best

Keith

The ones I purchased for my (99) bandit 600 off pyro on this forum were diaphragm rather than washers. I couldn't tell you where exactly they are fitted in the carbs because uhh, nevermind. But you who know about bikes and carbs and the like I am hoping recognise the part of a 'diaphragm'.

The dealers could make their own, or they could buy super cheap ones ...... or they could buy from FI International, get a 30-40% profit margin on the £200 and screw you over for fitting and labour charge too, and they get away with it because its the law and have no shortage of customers - its not brainwashing or monopoly at all its just good business sense. Thumbs Up

Very true with profit margins, On my last insureance for my jeep, £260, if you actually read the beakdown the insurance was £147 and the rest was for admin, brokers and the rest of the hangers on. Evil or Very Mad

dealer margin on an FI kit is about £30, the idea being they make their cut out of the labour for fitting it
