i've narrowed my list down to three potential bikes.

i have a cb250 for getting to work and back on and want another bike for weekends/ evenings / travelling further afield (though not too often!)

i'm gonna go new and im ready for the depreciation hit but want something that i know will last me as long as i take care of it and not something which has hidden fuck ups caused by the last owner. and cheap on insurance.

everytime i think of one i look into it alot and there's always some reason someone thinks they're 'crap'

here's what i've managed to whittle it down to:

Suzuki sv650 sport.

https://www.cupar.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/bike_sv650_sport.jpg

Kawasaki Er6n
https://gallerymotorcycle.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/New-2010-Kawasaki-ER6n-Black-Street-Sport-Edition.jpg

Kawasaki Z750
https://www.masmoto.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/kawasaki-z750-2010-bicolor-blanco-001.jpg

which of these would you recommend and why? if other please state which (has to be on 0% finance somewhere haha)

last thread like this i promise!

Z750.

Hate SV's.

Er's are ok. But I think they're fugly. (Hollis has one/ OR had. Not sure what's happened)

So 750 gets my vote.

Or settle for an older model Hornet. I'm not biased in any way. :whistle

you'll get the best resale from the z750,lt also its the most powerful,
has the best brakes, and best suspension (still room for improvment)
and arguably looks the best... apart from that ugly zorst

I'm also gonna go with the Z.
The sv looks like a naked with a fairing slapped on it and I don't fancy that.
This leaves me with the 2 nakeds to choose from.
For traveling and mile work you'd have to go the 750.

Plus if you're leaning that way, it's the one you want Thumbs Up

Z750 easily the pick of those three. The SV is a bit of a dull ride and very long in the tooth these days, and the ER is hideous.

At £6k for a Z750 though, splash a little bit more and you could have either of these:

https://www.ducatimotorcycle.net/images/ducati-monster-696-left.jpg

https://www.themotorreport.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/triumph-street-triple-r-tmr-2.jpg

Both likely to be better investments in terms of residuals, and both much more characterful than the three you've listed.

The er6n is a cracking bike but whatever you pick its going to be you that lives with it everyday and rides it everyday so sod what anyone else thinks and get what you like.

I got my er6 a few days ago and other than a slightly annoying rattle that comes from somewhere near the speedo at low revs, i'm happy with it and havent got anything bad to say about it.Possibly needs an aftermarket pipe on it to make it sound more manly on tick over but it sounds meaty enough out on the road.
Thumbs Up

If i had to choose from your options i'd probably go this way:

z750 first, but only because it looks the best out of the 3.
er6n a close second
wouldnt buy a SV, dont like them at all.

unfortunately i cant afford to go over £6k as it puts me in a very tight financial spot. i didnt know the monster 696 was more than 6 grand but they dont do 0% finance anyway so it's out of the question.

0% almost means RRP, while loan rates aren't so good these days, you can often find new bikes that have been discounted more than the interest you would pay on the loan, so it's worth shopping around.

For a 'fun' bike I wouldn't choose one that's been made to a budget intended as a commuter bike.

so basically what everyone says is 'get a zx6/cbr/gsxr/r6'. i dont want to!

that interest business is quite interesting though. i'll look into it and see if there's a ducati dealer near me though i doubt it!

Thought suzuki had stopped making the SV650? Confused Unlees you're on about the gladius? In which case I wouldn't bother it looks fugly. Hyosung GTR650 looks good & quite a bit cheaper than 6k. What about one of these though?
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/16studio-dorsoduro_constraintscaled.jpg

I'm sure I've seen some dealers flogging them for around the 6k mark recently. Thumbs Up

i've been drawn to sm/hms but i'll be doing some motorway miles and dont want to be swept away into the wind so unfortunately it's not a viable option.

my local dealer has a k6 gsxr6 and cbr6rr for about <£5k with about 3k miles on each so i may have a chat with them about it. as long as i can get it over 3 years and the APR doesnt accumulate to 20% in the three years it could be an idea. but i hate the idea of interest, feels like im being robbed Laughing

Personally I'd look at bank loans, very rare the normal finance offered by dealers is any good.

Oh and I hate the idea of paying rrp (which I have done), feels like I'm being robbed Smile.

Is that the best you can get? May well be for your circumstances, but there's cheaper advertised - from 8.8% for £5k on money supermarket over three years.

Second hand SV650 for £2k or less. From a caring lady/mature owner. All the bike that you need in comparison to those above, but half the depreciation gone. Probably with a few handy extras chucked in for free, and even smaller insurance premiums.

I've also found second hand bikes are more 'fun' than brand new ones. From the new bikes I've owned, firstly picking them up from the showroom was a bit of an anti climax, and secondly, I was a little too careful with trying not to mark them from use.

In hindsight, I should have bought my Blade after my R6 (rather than my new CBR6) and I should have never bought a brand new ER6. But, we learn from our mistakes I guess.

I doubt I'd ever buy new again. Not a matter of not being able to afford it, more of a matter of there being no need to.

i just checked with natwest haha. linkage to that?

also, found a tidy J1 available near me but they want 2650 for it which seems a bit much :S might have a pop up because i could pay that off by the end of the summer which would negate all this 3 year pay back bollocks and i wouldnt have to pay any interest would i?

had a G2 and fucking adored it so this could actually be the ticket. no point going to flash to soon perhaps.

exactly. there's something wrong with the dealers near me. they're fecking extortionate! apart from m+p, they're not too bad as it goes. 08 z1000 with 1k miles for 5.5k, doesnt seem bad to me except i dont fancy getting bum tickled by the insurance company.
