We all, well most of us, start off on a small CC bike :l

When you got your first 'fast' bike, I'm talking 120+mph, did you max it out the first time you got on it? I know a guy who went from a 250 4 stroke to a 600cc '07 Ninja, he's had it for about 6 months and the fastest he's been on it up to yet is 106mph, with me on the back videoing lol

When he accelerates fast he never ever changes gear, with it being a ninja having 20k RPM he just redlines it in low gears then lets off the revs and goes about 40/50 :l, then when we stop he is literally shaking like he's just seen a ghost, this is after 6 months

However I got on a 1000 and did 160 INDICATED and another mate of mine just got an '02 ninja and did 150 INDICATED the first day he got it

What's your story? Could you stop yourself for the sake of sensibleness or were you just too frightened of death? Or did you give it everything you had?

I got my 500 to its top speed on the ride home from picking it up.. but lets face it, around 105-110 top speed isnt amazing...
But now ive got a 600 i might treat it with a bit more respect and not flaw it the first time on it, give it a few weeks to learn all its quirks then i'll probably give it a hike up the motorway.

I told myself to take it easy on the way back from picking up my ninja after going from a 125 a few days before but ended up blasting it at 100 odd down the back roads. After a week, I had 140 out of it down the motorway and since had about 155 - 160 I think, not too sure as I wasn't exactly paying too much attention to the speedo.

With my CBR I got used to the bike first, then maxed out..

Didn't seem to want to go faster think about 165/170 indicated?

When I was on my DAS I felt quite proud that I'd pinned the throttle of the 125 (but not maxxed it out) on my first road lesson.
I then managed to top it out on my third day, accelerating to a headrush speed of... 68mph indicated.

When I eventually got my own bike (the GPZ500), even though I hadn't ridden for a year before it, I pinned the throttle on the first ride home, and maxxed it within the first couple of weeks.

Also pinned the throttle on a Z1000 and a ZX10R, but couldn't max them because they were on demo rides and we had to stay behind the shop assistant (on a ZZR1400).

Still haven't done that on the Bandit yet, but we haven't really had the weather for me to feel confident enough to do it. I'm REALLY looking forward to the warmer weather though....

i did 200-210 kmph on my mates gixxer 1000 k1 on the first ride was quite scary though..the front wheel just doesn't feel like staying on the ground..

First time I went out on it, I barely touched the throttle, was so scared of it. Only went around the block and came back shaking. The throttle response was mind blowing, even the slightest touch and it'd shoot off

The next time I rode it, I went out with the attitude that I was in control, and to be a man about it, not a scared little girl.

Got ou of the city, put it on a straight bit of road in 4th and just wound it open and held it there, snicked up through 5th and 6th and let off when the needle passed 140mph. Fastest I had even gone and under my own control at that. Best experience ever.

It's not quite as exciting these days, now that I'm more used to it. Having said that, I've not rode my bike for about 5 months now, so I've got some re-adjusting to do when I go out tomorrow

Did 145mph indicated on the Thundercat 3 days after picking it up.

On the way back from picking it up I pinned it in first and second, got it up to about 85mph. .

First big bike i had a go on was a Thunderace, got it into 4th, snapped the throttle open and changed to 5th as late as i dared. I didn't think to look at the speedo until i had lost a bit of speed but it still read 130.

If every i get myself a litre bike i'll probably do the same again
