Right, the NSR is done rebuilt, but theres a small problem...

At about 5/7k in all gears, the engine hiccups and splutters, which means the clutch has to be slipped to get past it.

The powervalve appears to be jammed open, could this be the problem, or something else?

After how many miles do 2 strokes generally need to be rebuilt if treated nicely?

Nonsense.

You don't need to even start thinking about a rebuild until 25,000+

Its about 10k miles (16k KM) on a 125 2 stroke. Especially the high strain ones like the NSR/RS/Mito.

Mine had 18k KM on the clock, but I don't know if that was how much the engine had done since its last rebuild...

Thanks, I bought mine with 9500Km on the clock, and I've done ~850 miles since (I think that's about 6.5-7000 miles). How much are you looking at for a rebuild and what does it involve? How long does it take?

I just threw the NSR at my brother-in-law and said "Fix this".

Cost was about £120ish for the parts.

Labour will probably cost me an 1/8 in bud and a few beers Razz

mines got 19k kilometre on clock and its still strong as an OX! but then again ive only had it since 18k kms so weather or not its had a rebuild i dont know

i think aprilia say something like 16k miles is full engine rebuild, mind u i also know that key walshe(apriliaforum) lasted to 30k kms on his original rings! i guess its how they r treated right from 1st start up, good oil, regular servicing etc

Hi

Aprilia do not specify a mileage for an engine rebuild. What they do specify is to check the piston rings clearance at 8000km (5000 miles) and to do this properly means stripping the top end of the engine. Not difficult and a gentle afternoons work, but if you are going to that much effort you may as well replace the rings.

All the best

Keith

Still no idea why its coughing and spluttering at 5k in every gear.

Come on guys, I need some assistance and you've just gone completely off topic...

What do you normally do on a rebuild?

Replace piston rings, what else?
