EVERYTHING ON THE BIKE IS BESPOKE AND RECOGNISABLE...

A SUBSTANTIAL REWARD IS OFFERED FOR ANY INFORMATION LEADING TO IT'S RECOVERY

There's a fair bit more gone than just that one bike.

"Mark Littler’s Kawasaki ZX10R and a GSXR1000K5 have been stolen from Mallory Park, generators, laptops, timing gear and a load of stuff inc helmets from the track shop"

Real shame that MSV have such small profit margins that they can't afford security for their circuits. Rolling Eyes

Erm I presume this wasn't a BSB event?
If not, it seems a bit harsh to criticise MSV for not providing security to a rival race circuit/meeting Smile.

Terri Mellor Actually there were two security men on shift, one on the paddock gate and one patrolling in a 4x4. The thieves struck first at the Moto-X track and the mobile patrol was on the case with this when the other three thefts occured. The paddock trade shop was emptied of helmets and the two race bikes were stolen and taken out of the back gate, which had been completely dismantled during the night. They had also let the 25 horses out of the neighbouring field to cause another distraction (I spent several subsequent hours getting them off the main roads).

There were at least eight and possibly ten individuals involved, so personally I'm glad the lone security guard didn't come across and confront them as we also found a nasty looking cleaver laying in the mud by the back gate.
Whoever they were, they knew all of the locations of the security cameras as they succesfully evaded being caught on any of them and this can't have been accidental. All circuits provide some form of security, but none of them are bulletproof (We had 8 bikes nicked from the GP paddock at Brands Hatch once many moons ago and they went out via the GP loop and through the woods).

It's no good finger pointing or blaming security/lack of security, the blame lies squarely with the thieves.

Also, this was not the local pikeys from the Costalot estate I know this for two reasons;

1) I paid them a visit yesterday morning and made "enquiries" with a bit of assistance and I was allowed to look in all of their compounds. Whilst there was undoubtably some dodgy gear in there, none of it was what we were looking for.

2) It was their horses that were let out onto the roads and no matter what else they might do, they wouldn't risk their own horses.

This is a problem that seems to come with Moto-X events (we have a round of the Maxxis British Championship today). It's not the Moto-crossers themselves as they are actually victims too, it's the fact that theives follow them around to steal their gear as their events are often at unsecured locations making them easier prey to thieving scum.

The only solution is to be vigilant and to look after our own gear and keep an eye on our mates gear too.

Not that likely - there are policies that cover race bikes, but a lot of them are rather expensive as it's quite 'niche' insurance, never mind getting them to cover all the changes you've made, including the new bodywork you've just bought at the meeting etc.

Race bikes tend to be either locked up at home or left within a few metres of where you or your mates are most of the time, so it shouldn't be a big issue most of the time. In some cases I would still chain up my bikes however, depending on the circuit, the security etc - as we can see they had to be quite clever to manage it all.
