Route: Hindhead Run
Attendees: Joe, Tatters, Matt, MikeJ, Philo, Me.
Weather: Dry and warm all day (perfect)
Going: Muddy and slippery.

Met at Harvester and spent 5 minutes admiring Tatters new bike / welcoming new rider Matt to the team.
(Nice to see only 2 strokers left in the pack now)

Joe led the way throughout the entire route and did an excellent job with no detours ... cheers Joe. Thumbs Up
Going was muddy ... and the ruts caught a few of us out ... but no major offs or injuries.
Sand Lane and the Woops were there usual excellent fun.
With the sand firmer than normal, which made it slightly easier ... while the woops were totally different from summer, and a little unpredictable.

All going well ... everyone having a great time ... no issues or ramblers or mechanical trouble.
Yep! it was all too good to be true .. and as if by fate, Tatters corner proved to be cursed yet again. Twisted Evil
As we descended down the steps we were confronted by 3 4x4's stuck and blocking the way ... with a further 4 down in the deep ruts (with one being winched out and another almost on its side apparently). Rolling Eyes

The 4x4 guys have been there some time and had decided to see how far they could get up the steep hill off the side of the byway.
We decided this was a good time for a break and watched with amusement as jeep after jeep tried to scale the climb ... each one failing half way up and giving up.
Smokes over and refreshed ... but still with no way through ... Tatters decided it was time to show them how it was done (we all made it to the top in some fashion last year ... but this time it was wetter and more rutted from the jeeps Shocked ).
Result = Tatters steams up the climb ... hitting the top, only to drop it at the last second and slide back down.
But he won ... thats all that matters Wink
Video: https://www.youtube.com/user/silkyR6?feature=mhw4#p/u/8/IFZgu2Aypts

Anyway, time to move on ... and with approx 7 jeeps stuck/being winched out, and no route past ... it was decided to take a slight detour.
Luckily it was at this point that myself and Joe got stuck trying to turn around ... and I then fell onto one of the jeeps, creating a noticable dent in his door Smile
Why lucky ? ... because it meant that we didnt try the detour!
Detour Summary = Deep deep mud ... Bikes stuck front wheel deep and back end in air ... bikes overheating and 'nippin up'... MikeJ finally returning and collapsing ... Philo dumping his bike.
In the mean time myself and Joe almost ran out of smokes ... we were not happy ( Wink )

By this time the jeeps had all quit and managed to turn around / extracted from ruts.
So we retraced our steps and headed for the return run.
Mud was sticky and made the tree roots and rocks nice and slippy ... with one set of roots (I think the same ones that caught me out a few months ago) sending Philo into the ground.
I asked him if he was ok ... and on the second attempt he managed a weak thumbs up.
So he is fine I think Thinking ... as I watch him struggle to pick his bike up (see video (insert time)).
Not like Philo to be so wimpy ??
At the car park I ask him why he didnt respond straight away ... and he informed me that he didnt know where he was for a few seconds and was very confused ... apparently he took a good heavy knock to the head.
That will explain the feeble attempts to get out from under the bike as I filmed it then Smile

Before too long the rest of the lanes were done and I was sorry to see we were back at the harvester.

A great run ... good laughs and lots of knackering effort.
Bring on the next one.
Thumbs Up Cheers Guys Thumbs Up

As for pesky 4x4x4x4x4x4x4 we had quite a few today too, none that really stopped play for long though Thumbs Up

p.s. 2-strokes are the future!! Cool

It was indeed a most excellent ride.

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying it was pretty tough going - I don't think I've seen it that muddy down there before.

And finally another one has seen the 2 stroke light Very Happy

I know a lot of folks do a few things they shouldn't do. I'm far from perfect myself.

But recording it and putting it on a public facing video sharing site is only going to give the council/ramblers something to utilise against us?

Perfect ammunition for a TRO. Crying or Very sad

Especially when, as you say, they're "digging up the ground like mini excavators"

Just a thought. Sounds like you had a great run.

Alternatively, its a great video to show how bikes cause 1/10th of the damage that 4x4's do Thumbs Up
and how they are designed to navigate these lanes and cause minimal impact (certainly when compared to 4x4's or 100,000 walkers per year) Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
They will then close the lane to 4x4 drivers and leave it open to 2 wheeled vehicles Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

But you have a good point about the 'excavators' comment (its true, but hey! since when was the truth acceptable in this country Rolling Eyes )
In its place maybe I should write a section on how they left the place littered with old sweet wrappers, crisp packets and tissue paper (they had muddy hands the poor petals). Confused

Doesn't look that steep tp be honest. I can see the guy struggling to walk up it so it must be unless it's just quite loose?

I've seen some 4x4's in action. I don't see the point in them unless it's a dedicated little machine, not your usual Pajero's, Shoguns, or Jimny's. I see quite a few that look purposeful and do the job with ease, then you see these "school run 4x4's" struggling everywhere.

The camera definitely makes it look a lot less steep. I tried walking up and slipped back down.

yup thought that might be the case. I bottle it at uphills to be honest. There's some at Drumclog I see guys attempting and I just look on in astonishment when they make it.. I wouldn't even attempt it. Thumbs Up Downhills are not so bad, I think it's just the thought of flipping the bike and it landing on me that I hate about climbs.

Climbs are OK as generally when you fall off it's because you've lost all your momentum and just topple off sideways.

Downhills hurt more when you fall off Laughing

I may remove the video Sad
(shame, it took me bloody ages to edit and sync the music Smile )
Svenn is right .... its perfect ammo for the militant ramblers and lazy council officials.
(as a side note... will we reach a point where the likes of Svenn. Blue. Joe. Me etc etc get fed up with treading on eggshells and finally say "f**k it" ???
eg: Its like living with an abusive bully, who is 6 foot 5 and a cage fighter ... ie: you have no chance in a fight..... and if you so much as step slightly out of line (post a video of others causing damage / make too much noise / wear aggressive helmets / etc) then they come down on you like a tonne of bricks).

Will uuuum and arrrr for the rest of the evening and see what mood I am in before beddiebyes.
