As per thread title, anyone know what the bike is in this photo?

I had it pinned for a Sunbeam S7/S8, but the tyres are wrong for the S7, and the engine and forks wrong for the S8...

Fantastic looking bike though.

I had it as a Panther but not a 250 it is a lot bigger, The Panther always used oil in sump and you can see the extended sump Royal Enfield did the same though as did other brands. However it is not a big Panther as they used the engine as an integral part of the frame and this bike has a front downtube.

I've changed my mind! Have done some trawling, and i reckon its a VERY close match for one of the BSA Sloper range. Cept the exhaust, which might have been cut/swapped.

The forks look BSA and the stays on the guards are the same. the one you posted is a twin port head and the one in the photo is single port but manufacturers would often use both arrangements. Both bikes are utilising a twin downtube frame.
I think your BSA call is a good one.

i think it's a bsa but the side valve sloper like this one;

edit: bit more digging https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSA_Sloper (i'm not sure now that it is the side valve as teh head looks too big, probly the 595cc overhead)

edit 2:still not 100% will check findings tommorrow

YW4772 is NOT on the Motor Insurance Database today.

Laughing.

YW4772 with a BSA manufacturer comes up with NADA on the Vehicle Enquiry too, but chances are it's well off that now.

Good luck finding the manufacturer!
