Flip, try messing with the ISO setting and knocking it down a little. It will reduce the amount of light going into the sensor to the same amount of time (so produces a slightly darker image which can be compensated by a longer shutter speed) but will remove some of that graininess Thumbs Up

Generally, I take all my pictures on ISO 64 unless I'm trying to capture something moving or it's getting dark and my hand shake affects the picture, which I will then just set it to auto.

That was taken on auto mode (macro). Haven't messed with any settings yet but I'll have a read of your link. Very Happy

Edit: Just found loads settings and modes. It time read have a play and read the manual. Laughing

My iso range is from 80-1600. 80/100 is definitely smoother & darker but trying to keep my hands perfectly still at 80iso is another story. Rolling Eyes

It can be a hard balance to get right, but remember, grainy pictures or more useful than blurry pictures Thumbs Up

The second picture looks much better.

Actually changing the ISO doesn't affect the AMOUNT of light hitting the sensor at all. That's what the aperture and shutter speed do.

The ISO affects the SENSTIVITY of the sensor to any light that hits it. The trade off is the higher the ISO the more grain or noise you get(Although this is much better now, have you seen the high ISO on the new pro Nikon body?).

Back in the film days the roll of film in the camera controlled the ISO, however now because we are spoilt by digital you can have multiple sensitivities without having to fiddle about with a million different film types.

/pedant.

Thumbs Up
